I went to virgin, it was really good, as a student I got it REALLY cheap, normally.. £50 joining fee? Mine was free, and £28 a month, normally £38.

If you fish for deals, they will offer them, the one I went to had a swimming pool, sauna, steam room on top of all the other usual stuff.. plus it was huge.

Then came the changing room fire :/.

I used to go to JJB which was quite expensive but very nice.

I am now at the uni gym, which is 135 quid for the year! Not far off a tenner a month.

Im with LA fitness. The local ones great quite big and only 3 years old, but being a self imployed builder i travel all over working and have been to a few and can honestly say some are shit holes

My advice would be to have a walk around all the ones local to you.

That would have saved me money really... didnt think of that, plus where i live isnt exactly the place for a 19 year old girl ot be running around early or late at night by herself!

Personally when i look for a gym i look for one with raw weights, e.g loads of free weights and different types of weight bars, you can do everything with them and put as much weight on as you want, imo gyms with all the fancy looking individual macheines are wank and you cant add weight once u hit the bottom pin. Plus with free weights not only are you taking the balance of the weight but your also strenthening other parts of your body and joints doing it.

i once went to a new local gym for a workout as it was just built with state of the art million pound equipment, it was like tripple the price of my current gym so only went for one work out to take a look, went in and not only was all the macenies crap and the weights not enough they also sent a memeber of staff over to me and told me that i had to be quiet as i was making to much noise when stacking the whole weight, wtf how gay so i never went back
