running 300wsub of 500w amp

just a quick question
i wanted to run my new infinity refrence 1200w max sub but i cba buying a new amp can i used my old amp. (jbl gto 601.1) to power the sub even if it is overpowering

for example the amp runs at i think its 484 or 545 watts rms cant remember
yet the sub only has 300w RMS

ive searched on the internet and just get annoying mixed answers that arnt relevant to me. chhers

Yes you can, just don't over power the sound or you could blow both.

like said turn the gain down, obviously in proportion to how much u need, half way should be okay with what you've quoted

if you cant hear when the sub is maxing out theres something wrong with your ears.i worked at a ice shop and couldnt belive how many people came in saying there stereo system was brilliant then you go for a listern to it and sounded awful.
any sub amp combo will work to a degree i was using a 2500w amp for 2 12" subwoofers and a 600w amp for a pair of cdt audio eurosports.
sounded sweet as and when wanted reached 149.8 db in db drag racing
