r26r is the current fastest FWD car round the ring too iirc?

rushy_23
30th October 2009, 08:46
Wow! Quite a big statement.

Cant comment as Ive never had the pleasure of driving either.

Is the Trophy that different to the other 172/182s?

leeroybrown
30th October 2009, 08:50
Suspension wise yes.

But its basically a cup with fancy suspension

Garry_T
30th October 2009, 08:52

Sach's remote resevoir dampers. Over £1k a corner (£1265 precisely). The same units as used on the 07/08 SEAT BTCC cars.

sir_dave - Yeah, it was in last months.

Holy smoke! I wouldnt want one of them to break.

leeroybrown
30th October 2009, 09:11

Now I didn't think they were that expensive. Infact, there is a guy where I study at castle combe who removed the sach suspension for some kw (I believe) coilovers. I called him a fool when he first said, but he is even more of a plonker now. He does have itb's though

Not really, the Sachs are still a road damper, if he has KW V3 for example they are fully adjustable for both bump/rebound/camber, etc - potentially a better setup for track ;)

Yes, the Sachs can still be unpinned, but you still dont have the finite adjustability of the KW's ...

Lmao. I like French hot hatches but no way will i ever prefer a Megane to a Focus RS/ST.

Its just a stripped out megane sport with a cage haha.. how many megan sport owners have made there very own R26R by taking out there seats lol

cheeRS lol.

Should be getting a ride in one on track v soon. :panic:

Is that before, or after the suspension mods to the R are mentioned? ;)

Lol regardless i still think people that buy these are nuts especially if they dont track them. Most hot hatches wont be taken to their limits by drivers anyway.

That doesnt mean to say i think its shite, just pointless unless used for what its for purpose. Tracking. I think you'l agree its not a practical car lol.

Same with the Cat7 in the vid great for tracking and occasional country roads but otherwise pointless.

However

The Focus RS does all & sounds alot better!

leeroybrown
30th October 2009, 11:16
Ha Just buy a Mountune-fettled Focus ST

Just as good

Jamie
30th October 2009, 11:24
Yep, one of the last things i did in my ST was stopped a new RS getting pass me when a 500+ bhp evo was up its ass lol (i was being a bastard) but new he wouldnt race.

BUT LEE BUT

Get DS on the RS and it will rip ANY ST that hasnt had turbo upgrade a new asswholeeeee

I will own an RS, unless im silly rich and decide to get a Ferrari hahaa

leeroybrown
30th October 2009, 11:38
Once you stop it from spining the front wheels maybe

Matts-VTR
30th October 2009, 11:47
I choose light and precision engineered (the megane BTW) that handles AND has ample power for anything any of us would use one for..

anyday over big fat but with a monstrous engine / turbo for plenty of grunt.

Kinda like comparing a ballet dancer to a drunken overweight liverpudlian bloke.

Karl
30th October 2009, 11:48
Trophy Powah.

Jamie
30th October 2009, 11:48
Well they do have LSD, so cornering you can get power down.

& i never had a problem nailing my 280+ to the floor and moving quick:)

Although a simple map on a RS is 350+ lol

GOD I NEED ONE.

leeroybrown
30th October 2009, 11:51
Traction control kicking in killing the powerrrrrrrrrrr

As a piece of engineering the megane is pretty awesome along with the trophy

Lol i never had TC on

I agree the Megane is good. Would be interesting to see what Ford could come up with to compete.

A stripped RS lol x

titchster
30th October 2009, 12:06
I like the quote on the front of Evo about the new Megane...

Something like 'In the straights the Megane happily keeps up with the RS'.

Just like the R could. w00t.

Jamie
30th October 2009, 12:09
I find that hard to believe i pwnd a megane r26R in my 280.3 BHP ST never tried corners but obs the car would pwn me then.

Ryan
30th October 2009, 12:15
Not a honda in the top 10, that will upset the vtec owners :D

Taken from EVO:

By return I was equally struck that the R26.R in my mirrors was losing no ground down the straights, where I’d thought its 73bhp and 95lb ft disadvantage would drop it back. The only time the gap lengthened was under the trees where the road was damp and the Mégane’s (optional) near-slick Toyos gave Roger a couple of heart-stopping moments.

Jamie
30th October 2009, 12:29
Well maybe that was an RS with a slow engine.

You get good and bad engines. I find it hard to believe whatever the power to weight lol

KamRacing
30th October 2009, 12:31
The focus RS is nothing special other than having lots of power.
The Megane had the 'revoknuckle' long before ford marketed it...

Ryan
30th October 2009, 12:32
Well maybe that was an RS with a slow engine.

you think that the press test cars they will release a bad car for every review (seeing as 95% of them say the r26r is a much better package than the RS). :fcuk:

Jamie
30th October 2009, 12:36
Im going to get pwnnnnddddddd

Lots of power = win lol

RS weight - 1467 kg - BHP 300 but 315 isnt unheard of lol
R26R weight - 1230 kg - BHP - 230

Im not a mathmatician but whats the power to weight for both cars, just fatory figres.

I like the RS better as a complete car and im sure if you removed shit you didnt need and put plastic windows and flimsy bumpers on and an eibach pro kit it would enhiliate an R26R..

But then you could argue what if the r26R was 300bhp or does it have the balance to a T not to much power great handling lol

leeroybrown
30th October 2009, 12:43
Jamie just admitt defeat!

titchster
30th October 2009, 12:43
RS has got about 20bhp/ton more, but as Ryan said, all the reviews seem to say the Megane keeps up.

And thankfully, someone who sees both sides to the 'strip out the RS' arguement, everyone else seems to miss the 'give the Megane 300bhp' part.

Ryan
30th October 2009, 12:45
I like fords (well some)

But several well respected reviewers all stating the r26r is better and the ford boys all look for excuses and cant admit it....

Ford released the RS as it is, as did renault.

Ryan
30th October 2009, 12:47

Everyone will look at power/power to weight and ignore gear ratios, traction etc....

Jamie
30th October 2009, 12:50
Id still sooner have one.

lol x

leeroybrown
30th October 2009, 12:51
Mind you I prefered glass windows to plastic ones

titchster
30th October 2009, 12:51
Straight line when you're rolling, traction won't really be any different in fairness.

Obviously ratios etc are gonna matter, but the RS is still got 20bhp/ton up.

Plastic windows are harder to break than glass ftw.

hellovts
30th October 2009, 12:52
im with jamie - rather focus RS than some stripped megane lol ...

to own and drive everyday etc RS > renault

IMO the new Rs looks like a max power incarnation.

I much prefer the styling of the mk1 RS focus

KamRacing
30th October 2009, 13:38
last time I drove in a long straight line i was bored crapless on the motorway. I'd rather sit in luxury and i'd buy a bmw for that sort of driving.
Fun roads have bends where a good chassis is vital and so the renault excels.
The whole point is these are two cars straight out the factory as the manufacturers intended.
Saying that I would rather have an Escort cosworth - no doubt slower than both but its rather cool.

Jamie
30th October 2009, 14:08

No more than that R26R at least its nearly all one colour lol!

Mk1 is good but id sooner be in the newer one anyday!

All I ever see driving the new Focus RS' are midlife crisis men with it in the green colour and a personal plate lol.

Quite a few round here...

Id like to join them, although im not mid life.

Trouble is, its price 25Gsss second hand on PH

True about the plates tho lol, ive seen so many starting RS09 *** FUN ** ect

Ashleyp
30th October 2009, 14:20
r26 will be the better drivers car as its more orientated for that? with r888's as an option from factory iirc?

the RS is just bulky, with more "normal road features" as opposed to just a tuned track car.

for those who find the r26r too hardcore, the r26 is a day to day car with a lot of the r26r's features

Yep your right. It looks like a car for 20-something year old's, but not many people in there twenties can afford one so it ends being a mid-life crisis machine.

Jamie
30th October 2009, 14:43
So there we have it the RS wins.

haha.

R26R is a better track car.

Im over the fact its very close between the R26R and RS on track even though the RS has 70bhp more, i doubt the R26R is any better a driver car if theres little between them.

I'm with Jamie. One car was aimed as a track toy, the other not. It's not really very fair using track results as the decider. Yes Kam, I know you didn't. :P

The RS looks stunning. Having seen both cars a few times, I think the RS wins hands down as far as looks go. If I had to buy one or the other, I wouldn't even have to think about it. :)

R26.R
FRS MkII

Both awesome cars.

Trophy vs 172/182
Felt TOTALLY different to drive, much preferred the Trophy.

+1 Karl ~ Get that French Shed sold and some nice JDM in your life.

Big price difference,

But yeah, R26.R & Trophy are good cars.
