rite im contemplating looking at a clio sport as the next toy
id probably be looking at the 182 or 182 trophy
can someone please give pros and cons between the 172 and 182...
also if you can let me know what "both cup packs" includes as i see alot of them have it but all i have noticed is the front splitter
also what sort of price should i be looking
iv had a look and a low milage(less than 50k) 05 plates are about 6k?

just found this... im guessing this answers one of my questions... still whats pros and cons
For those not into Clio's, i will explain this, the non cup model means it has all the extra such as:
Cruise control
Xenon lights, which automatically switch on and off
Auto wipers
Climate control
Half leather seats
Split folding rear bench
Plus more

I will now explain the cup packs.
When new, the Clio was offered with the option of having cup packs fitted, which at an extra cost adds:
Lower and stiffer suspension
Wider front track
Darker coloured wheels
front bumper spolier
Bigger rear spoiler

Ask AlexR or LeeroyBrown

lol

Ph1 and most ph2 172s don't have the extra goodies like cruise control and ESP

172 cup is uber low spec but has much better suspension(not just different springs & dampers) to the normal 172. And it is a lot quicker because it's light.

The 182 has everything you could need.
The cup spoiler pack is bigger rear spoiler and front splitter
The cup suspension pack is lower, harder springs, better dampers, anthracite alloys, wider offset hubs.
The 182 cup is a 182 with no xenons, leather, climate(still has air con) and both cup packs
The trophy is a cup with recaros, posh suspension, posh wheels, cruise control etc

10bhp ha :)

i think i heard it was to do with the different exhaust? or induction

AlexR
30th October 2009, 23:59
182 exhaust manifold is a work of art, and the cat and system are better too, that together with better mapping = 10ps more.

What are the actual power figures for 172/182s though?

Everyone is saying so many things its confusing.

Cal

Less than the name... but it varies.

We really should have a sticky with all the model's info on and differences lol

Mieran
31st October 2009, 00:14
My mates 172 engine is running at 168.8 with a few mods.

He says they vary from 150 to 165

Cal
31st October 2009, 00:16
Too many variables to say... depends on the RR and allsorts... but yeah generally less than the model name.

Depends were you take the figures from the fly or wheels but renault take there figures from the fly

dean how many more cars do you want before you join the army mate

The model names are in PS anyway, so 172PS would be roughly equal to 168bhp and 182PS would equal to about 179bhp, thats if they lived up to their names. But I've also heard to standard models putting out a lot less than that too.

AlexR
31st October 2009, 10:27
Mine put out 185bhp 100% standard. But then it feels a lot healthier than harrys 182.

All down to how they're cared for, and luck of the draw too!

would you reccomend one? pros and cons?

AlexR
31st October 2009, 22:07
I'd recommend a trophy or a 172 cup. Pros, they rock. Cons, servicing and parts are expensive.

Spend your money on a Cammed vts on bodies tbh Unless you want the clio for track purposes.

Can't see the point in doing that whatsover unless you already own a Vts.

You can pick up a decent 172 now for £2000.

SAXOZ 4 EVA!!! :y:

I had much more fun in my VTS than in my 172... the 172 feels like a much more solid car for sure, but it didn't have as much fun factor as the VTS looking back on it...

Not saying it's a bad car mind, although mine had lots of problems with the immobiliser and the ecu which i think is fairly common problem in them. Something to do with a ring loop isolator if my memory serves me correctly...

The auto lights and xenon lamps and stuff are cool, mine had cruise control as well, and the seats are super comfy...

I think the 182 Trophy's might be worth looking at if they suit your budget!

The F4r engine is pretty dam good, plenty of room for some tuning potential and a great base to start from.

If only i could afford a 182 trophy in light blue with the twin offset bonnet stripes!

Missus is going to look at a 172 tonight :) not a trophy or anything special but a nice low mileage one :y:

You cant get a Trophy in Light Blue, just Capsicum Red.

OP i'd get a 172 Cup if it were my money. They look the best ( Mondial Blue ) with Turini wheels, and the closest thing to a Saxo in regards to a raw driving experience.

I miss mine sometimes - http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c338/lei69gh/clio.jpg

i thought the trophy only comes in red... isnt it the 182 cup that comes in gordini blue and some had the twin stripes?

leeroybrown

Yeah but its racing blue!

Karl
1st November 2009, 18:10
182 cups are either racing blue or inferno orange.
182 trophy - only red.
172 cup - only silver or blue

deanomx206
1st November 2009, 18:33
whats the gordini blue then? or is it another name for racing blue

sir_dave
1st November 2009, 21:41
I've had a standard 182 in racing blue with gordini stripes, brilliant everyday car, all the toys, epic handling.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/Sir_Dave/Previous%20Cars/DSC03486.jpg

I've also owned a 172 cup with a few choice brake, exhaust & induction mods. It was in my opinion, the most fun/best drivers car i have ever had the pleasure of driving/owning. Absolutely brilliant car & imho, preferable over the trophy, purely as it more 'pure', ie back to basics, proper 'old-skool' hot hatch. It did 178bhp ATF (149bhp ATW) on the rollers, with a ktec exhaust & espace V6 airbox ...

I'd have another tomorrow, quite happily.

They all vary... none will be exactly the same. Too many variables when coming up with the number aswell.

And really, what the fuck does it matter? They're good cars, 5hp under the name or whatever isn't going to kill you... or your cock.
