very good piece of Kit Clairey. Its almost impossible to damage any paintwork etc with these orbital machines.

Also orbital machines imo are better for working on plastic as they do not make the panel get as hot as rotary machines do which means its very unlikely it would warp.

Is this good for a total machine Polishing n00b?

Any chance of damage? How often do you have to replace pads?

no chance of damage really unless you sit on the one spot for ages (or say if there is hardly any depth to the paint)

was gonna say you could have a shot of mine but then you've already used a kestral

i need new pads but hardly use it so always puttin it off

Do you have to buy the exact polish that comes with it to use it?

Or will any do?

And how long do the pads last before they need replacing?

You can try any pad / polish combination mate, with regards to how long the pads last, it really depends on how bad the paintwork is your trying to correct.

The paint works fine, just want a better shine than by hand tbh

In that case mate pads are gonna last you a fair amount of time really, i normally use pads for about 2 details then just use new ones.

Its really hard to say how long they will last unfortunatly.

If you are not happy with the results you get by hand then machine polishing is the way forward mate, makes such an improvement!
