View Full Version : Battery light flickers before rev limiter

When i get into high revs like in the 500rpm before the limiter the battery light flickers faintly.

why is this?

only happens when going along in a gear, not when i rev it in neurtal.

exactly the same thing happens with me mate, was just about to post this up!

if i drive sensibly it doesn't happen at all, but when i plant my foot right up the end of the rev band it just pulses gently or flickers a bit.. really confusing me, i was thinking alternator but it would be doing it all the time if it was.

think it could be loose battery terminals?
keep me posted if you find out..

is your fanbelt tensioned correctly it could be slipping??....ide check the connector aswell where its so close to the mani/rad they tend to burn out its happened on mine once since i owned the car...

exactly the same mate, i assumed it was the engine making the battery vibrate slightly causing the battery terminals to be slightly lose.

dunno how to check the fanbelt tension!?

and do you mean the connector on the battery?

dunno about that mate, surely it would slip constantly, or be on the way out, this is weird if its like mine it only happens at a certain point of the revs

Thinking about it, loose battery terminals does make sense, i'd put it down to the high resonance level at those revs, probably rattling the battery terminals to bits lol

im at uni. my cars at home ;)
but i dont think my terminals are that lose. and if i nudge one the alarm goes off so not too keen to tighten them haha

Just one of those little 'french' problems i like to call them, just get swept to the side and ignored...

I think so :y: haha

I have this problem along with oil light. We came to the suggestion that it maybe my engine mounts, i have a high amount of engine movement due to one of the mounts being on its way. So assumed that this was causing alternator belt to slip and making it go on and off, same sort of thoery wth oil really. If it isnt that, god knows, id like to know too.

Flickering battery light will most likely be the alternator.

ive wondered before if my engine mount is dodgy cos my engine wobbles a bit.

Flickering battery light will most likely be the alternator.

even though it only happens when foots flat just before the limiter?

Lol same problems and apart from the Superturismos same car! Haha, i love it :)

Mine has been advised to me when i had my clutch done.

Its a bad earth mate, have you done any work on it recently and disturbed wiring?

Check the earth points, especially from the starter motor, alternator and battery. Ive seen this a few times before and even had it myself after changing a clutch, a terminal on the back of the starter motor wasn't tight!!

hmm i'll have a look at it.
not had any work done, couldnt be my sub could it? its something to do with a bad earth on the alternator?

Wizzy

Yes it will be a bad earth in the engine bay, nothing to do with a sub i would imagine.

I had the same problem. I removed the Connection to the alternator and used so wd40 and sandpaper on it till it looked shiny. Put it back never had the problem scince.

mine did this for a few days, then the alternator died.

The contact points wear down, meaning it spins, but makes no charge.

Did you get this sorted geez?
