I've got a 1998 R reg 106 GTI which i tried bleeding the brakes and the nipples snapped off (Rears). A lazy mechanic tried drilling it out and has buggered the caliper on one side and a garage is seeing what they can do about the other side.

I haven't even looked at the fronts yet, but i hope they are ok and the nipples come out ok.

I've always wanted a bigger brake setup anyway and have seen that some people put 206GTI and 306HDI brakes on.

Do they generally just do the fronts or the rears too?

I'm having to find a set of rear calipers now, but am wondering if i should upgrade all of the brakes or do people only normally get bigger brakes for the front?

Help as i have no clue what im doing :(

Thanks,

Andy

Keep rears as standard no need to upgrade them. People generally go for the 266mm setup from the 206 / 306 which is a nice cheap upgrade whilst your doing it may aswell get some braided lines on

Thanks Sophia, so it seems all i need is a rear caliper.

Where would be the best place to get a rear bendix caliper from? Also, what kind of price should i be paying?

I would get on 106ownersclub or try and get 100+ posts on here then stick a wanted thread up plenty of VTR/S and GTis being broken and rear calipers are the same so get them for peanuts price wise £40-50 delivered for the pair

Hi Sophia, thanks for your advice, i'm part of 106owners and just bought a full set of 306 GTI-6 brakes Front and Rears with new pads, newish discs and overall great quality set for £90.

Will these be a straight forward fitment onto my GTI? I've got 15" wheels :)
