ok so in these how to get the best MPG threads they are always talking about dont use electrics unless you need to otherwise you are putting more strain on the alternator and therefore sapping the power of the engine meaning you've gotta use more fuel. so would fitting a better alternator to my car reduce my MPG. im not expecting wonders but just a little bit. and what is a better alternator than a 1.1 is a vts different a diesel saxo? please tell!!!.

Fitting a 'better' alternator wont really make any difference to the cars performance mpg wise providing all the electrics are standard. The alternator will even cope by adding extra electrical equipment fitted to the vehicle. The problems begin when you start adding over the odds extras with equipment that requires a lot of amperage to perform, this will then put a extra load on the alternator and battery. So look at the electrical extras that are fitted then decide to upgrade your alternator.
