Is it worth declaring cams and a remap to the insurance company?

would they ever notice?

Anything performance related I would insure, except the likes of air filter, induction kits etc, thing you can swap in minutes back to standard.

So yeah, declare them.

cool :y: how much do you reckon cams and a remap would add to the insurance.

on my current car ive told them about eeeverything....even induction kit etc.

How old are you? NCB?

If you're young and have no NCB then I wouldn't declare lol

Just drive carefully ;)

phone up and ask lol

if you crash and kill someone, theyre likley to take the engine apart and inspect everything

tbh things they'd notice like induction kits/filters i'd declare, but cams and a remap, they would never notice it unless they rolling road it which they wont. if they did take it apart (which ive never heard this happening before) they wont tell the difference between a standard/aftermarket cam. a cam looks like a cam lol

but then if your like 25 and it wont make much a difference in price anyways then no harm tellin

The mechanics sent out by the insurers will check EVERYTHING if there happens to be a crash.

Especially as the OP has mods already...........

With cams its personal prefference. The insurance engineers dont have the time to take the engine apart when they examine cars. From experience, they barely have time to check for obvious mods as their main job is to assess damage.

And if you kill someone, I doubt very much theyd take apart your engine then either, and by that point getting an insurance payout would be the least of your worries as youll be off to meet Dick and Harry in the prison showers. If anyone was to disassemble your engine it would be the police, not the insurers

dont be an idiot and tell them about the cams and remap, mate they wont have a clue...

i didnt insure any mods i.e. lowered, tints, alloys, exhaust, induction kit on an old vtr and i got a payout no problem and that was with a strict company (provident) they dont let you modify atall

precisley, i think if i killed someone then whether my cams are declared is the least of my worries.

no they wont!

if my mum wrote off her car do you really think they are going to take the engine apart and check it for uprated this, that and the other??

i think not...

insurers look at the car and say 'cat D' or 'write that one off kev'

its not just about the look though of the car.

IF they are not mild cams and thus the engine idles totally different to a normal engine they are not that daft.

then it depends how badly you crash if the engine still runs.
