i brought this vtr a few months ago. its a 97 blacktop engine. When i got it i had the tappets adjusted because it was noisey on the top end. I got it back and it was running sweet. IVE done over 1k miles and now its playing up! It will tick over bang on but the sound from the exhaust dont sound normal. it sounds quieter and like its holding back. When im driving along and let off and then try and accelerate again its like it hessertates and holds back then it will pick back up again. but the power seems to of been lost aswell. any ideas what it could be people?
ive put new plugs in and that has done nothing.
it seems to pop and back fire alot when i let off aswell

if tappets were set too tight then it will lead to rapid valve seat wear/burning, then the valves don't seal properly and you loose power and get backfiring etc. that'd explain why it was ok to start with and got worse over time.

oh right. i will get the garage to check the tappets then thanks for that. Could that of knackered the valve seat mate

check the leads going to the spark plugs they might not be providing sufficient current to the plugs.
