Hi
My Saxo VTR won't start. Recentley when I started it, just before it fired up a crunching noise would be heard. The sort of noise you hear when you accidently turn the key when the engine is running. Now the car won't start at all. Everytime I turn the key, the crunching noise is just heard and it makes no attempt to turn over at all.
Has the ignition barrel gone?
Thanks

you could have damaged a number of thing mate check starter motor hasnt broke inside. It wouldnt be the barrell. Dont keep starting it till you check the starter motor because if the engine fires up the starter motor could get stuck and catch fire to the engine. My dad had this on a williams clio and it burnt to a crisp lol.

Put car in 2nd gear, roll it forwar a foot or two. Retry, it's possible the ring gear is worn. I have had this happen to me on a TU engine before. The problem is that he engine usually stops in one of two places which means that putting it in gear and rocking it soon becomes tiresome. Hope thi sgets you away for now

its the starter mate i picked one up off ebay for a tenner so not that bad.
i personally find fitting a starter easier from under the motor, remove ur rear engine mount and gear linkages will give u loads more room to work :)
