I have a 98 Saxo 1.1. The fuse has started blowing when I plug a sat nav into it. There was a 20 amp fuse in there. Tried a couple more 20 amp and they both blew. Is that the right fuse? I don't have diagram with the fuse layout for this model, is there one on this site somewhere? Anyone any ideas why this would start happening? I tried a 30 amp fuse but maybe that a bad idea as now the window wipers have stopped working. Any ideas? Thanks!

Don't put in anything bigger than 20a!!!!!!
It's that size for a reason, if you put bigger fuses in where they don't belong, you run a real risk of the cable melting and your car catching fire before the fuse blows.

First check the terminals, if they are exposed (no plastic insulation around them) they could be earthing out on something nearby. If it's not that, check the cables as far back as you can for bits of insulation missing.

Have you been messing about with your head unit recently? You could've trapped a cable somewhere?

If you can't find anything after that, you could run a new cable (with an inline 15a fuse) from the battery to the lighter socket. Halfords will have them.

P.S. put where you are on your profile buddy, there may be one of us nearby that can help etc.

Good luck.

yeah dont put a bigger fuse in as i had that experience yesterday and blew another big fuse which took me 4hours standing out in the cold looking for a melted wire and under the dash for a melted wire.. i checked both fuse boxes under dash and under bonnet but turnt out to be another fuse in another little fuse box.. that blew and my car wouldnt start nor turn over :S :S keep to the right fuse pal

Just seeing the topic, its similar to my problem. I just brought a 97 saxo mischief, which whenever i plug in the cigarette lighter, blows the fuse on the horn. Has anyone seen this before? the idiot who owned it before mereally cocked up the radio, so i was wondering if that could be connected?

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but didn't want to create another thread when I'm having exactly the same problem as the OP was (or has?)!

I can plug my phone charger in fine, that I know of - used it a few times, never a problem, just the manufacturer's supplied charger. I plug the charger in for my Satnav - an orange spark, then that sound of a fuse going to heaven. :(

I've been told to get a new cigarette lighter socket, but after seeing this thread I'm wondering... . What size socket will I need? Can somebody link show me one on eBay?

I was given a Saxo SX for free about three weeks ago. I have the same problem. When I use my Garmin, it works fine for a while, and the horn works fine, then a few days later I plug it in the cigar lighter and it's not working. I live in the HP5 area. Can anyone come over and have a look at my fusebox and wiring?
