Just asked 2 of my local garages to do me a job fitting a alternator belt and a starter motor while there under the bonet.

1 place said £60 for the labour
another the other £130 for the labour and fitting ?

i didnt think it would be such a big job.. so whats all this fitting stuff all about?

anybody else had anything like this?

My local garage (next door to where i work luckily) is averagely priced. around £40 an hour for labour, when the boss aint in though the lads will do it pretty cheapish for beer money like, depending on what it is.

My local is 30 buck an hour. Take the car to him at any time during the day and he's got it fixed within 2 days max

Both prices are a joke. As with most garage prices.

With a ramp both could be fitted in half an hour. Even in a garage that charges for whole hours not halves that should be £40 max for labour.

How much they charging you for the starter motor and belt?

Alot of my labour gets taken off the bill or halved most of the time...

For example last week, I've got a locking nut stuck on my car, they spent three hours on it, no labour charge.
When having an engine mount changed, no labour charge.

Its awesome being friends with mechanics
