excess play in steering wheel mot fail

right gents n gentle ladys, put the car in for mot yesterday and it failed on excessive play in steering wheel. as in when the cars sat theres about an inch movement left and right before the wheels start to turn. my mot tester reckons that theres a part sat behind the air box which could be the culprit. any ideas as to what this is and wether its going to be a shit to fix? also any other possible ideas?

sorted. pinch bolt loose connecting the rack to the rods. tightened n happy days
