on my furio with breathing mods just have the standard furio 1.4 gear box..
i want far more grunt and acceleration... have been messing about with the calculaters and the 1.4 box with 1.1 Fd is pretty short - is this ok ? would the fd cope in the 1.4 box?
and an even better accelerating one is the vts box with 1.1 Fd, again is this ok ?
lastly if i was to uprate to a vts engine with cams and higher rev limit would both still be suitable?
thanks all

in theory you could do, but would be easier to just use a 1.1 box!
The main reason they are different if because of the FD - if you put the same FD in a 1.1 box and a 1.4 box you'd barely feel a difference in ratios.
For the hassle its worth just get a 1.1 box

but 1st 2nd are the same with the 1.1 box compared to the 1.4/1.1fd but from gear 3 to 5 there much closer + i want it to be refurbed :y:

You'd hardly notice the difference on the road tbh!! It's the FD that'll change the feel of the box.
I'd stick with a 1.1 box and get that reconditioned if you really want to, but personally I think it's a false economy

i am slowly making it into a track car bud, being a student im taking it slow but is getting there! what you mean about the FD changing feel of the box? my mate had a 1.1 box on its own and he said it was still to long. i was ideally after a recond s1 or 1.4xsi box but there hard to come by!

The difference in gear ratios won't be noticable between the 1.4 and 1.1 box - as a result there's not real point in making a hybrid box.
If you want a track car then wait around for an S1 or 1.4 xsi box - get on 106rallyeforum - thats where most of the boxes tend to be sold.
There's no point spending £300 on a 1.1 box getting it reconditioned - when you can buy a broken/whining xsi box for the same amount and get it reconditioned.

but it will surely it will be stronger aswell in a 1.4 or 1.6 16v box?
speeds in boxes as follows...
redline: 6250
Fd: 1.1
ratios: 1.6 16v
1st = 28 2nd = 49 3rd = 70 4th = 91 5th = 112
redline: 6250
Fd: 4.268 (1.1)
ratios: (1.4)
1st = 26 2nd = 49 3rd = 75 4th = 93 5th = 124.
1.1:
1st = 28 2nd = 53 3rd = 75 4th = 93 5th = 124
1.4:
1st = 30 2nd = 56 3rd = 85 4th = 106 5th = 141 :O
thanks for all the help btw raunchz

Those 1.4 speeds don't seem right with a 1.1 FD to me, I could be wrong though.
Rember the 1.1/1.4 diff will take less abuse than the vts/xsi box
There's an expression polishing a turd, IMO you're doing this by playing about with 1.1/1.4 boxes

ok mate i see what your saying!
i personally like the sound of this:
redline: 6250
Fd: 1.1
ratios: 1.6 16v
1st = 28 2nd = 49 3rd = 70 4th = 91 5th = 112
its also pretty much identicle to the 1.4xsi and i would be able to get the vts and 1.1 bits much cheaper to and they would be stronger as xsi boxes are older and sought after?
will give it a month or 2 before deciding and meanwhile will keep me eyes open for the s1 box ;)
