to stop people joining just to promote their own site, how about not letting newbies post in the Links Section until they prove they want to be part of the community.
stole the idea from another site but noticed people were signing up, putting their site in the links section and not returning.

Nice idea... I've just implemented it smileys/smiley2.gif
Newbies can still reply in the links section, but cant start new threads.
This can be abused in a number of ways, but if we see this happening, further changes can be made.
Nice one! smileys/smiley14.gif

read my first post, some people just join up to promote their website or sell something and thats it. you should join up to be part of the community and such.
its like they are basically 'using' the website and not interested in what its all about.smileys/smiley4.gif
