ive had my saxo (1.1 2003) for a few months now. since ive had it, its always made a high pitched whirring (almost like a milk float!) sound. I was told it could be a belt rubbing or the alternator..
the other day when driving in the rain i went through a fairly deep puddle and a few mins later the radio turned off then back on again...then the dash board went out. i pulled over and the light would get brighter when i revved up. i got home and tried to start it, and it wouldnt!
manage to get it started with jump leads.
is this the alternator thats buggered? if so, does anyone know where i could get one for cheap- as im fairly strapped for cash at the mo!!!
cheers,
rod

yeah sounds like the alternator, same power problem my corsa had yesterday morning.
ebay's probably your best bet since you cant get into the 'for sale' section on here yet :)

Can only imagine there would be a mk1 and a mk2 alternator, dont know if they are different but its the only thing i think it could be!
Take yours out and take it with you :y:

Haven't done it myself, but im sure theres a belt tensioner you have to loosen
Get the belt off
Take off the connection to the battery
And im guessing there will be a couple of bolts holding the alternator on
Have a search for a thread covering how to do this, theres got to be one :y:

Get the altornator reconditioned for 30-40 quid they clean it up so it run's like new they will also put a new bearing in as that is where your whgineing noise is coming from :y:

Need to fing a place that specialise's in reconed altornators tbh they will also take your old one for a already reconed one as part exchange for about 60 quid if they have one.
Some garages do it but hard to find ;)
