Hi guys, basicly i was driving home the other day and my wipers started slowing down, then they stopped then lights and indicators and so on stopped working, then the car started chugging then died. Now the car will not start.

Have checked the voltage over the battery and alternator and determined its the alternator, so went scrapyard and got another one, fitted it and same problem, just wont start.

And the strange thing is my battery light doesnt come on when running, which it should do if there was a problem with the alternator

Any ideas guys? cheers

alternator wire to starter has broke ?

Have you thought to re-charge your battery after it was run flat ?!

Check the continuity of it with the multimeter?

well the car starts if i jump it so charging the battery will make no diiference. umm so that rules out the starter motor aswell, and the voltage at the alternator was going down as the voltage at the battery was goin down.

Surely if the car starts when you jump it the battery is too flat to start it by itself!? Hence charging the battery would solve it !?

Sounds like another duff alternator? OR the cable that joins the alternator to the starter (then goes to battery) is broke/weak?

Hi,

I agree with raunchz.

If you see the volts drop at the alternator end of the wiring then the alternator is not working.
