Yah meeeezz a goodaaa speedddinnggg meeeezz aaaa schumacher.
tbh its mainly down to drivers who have never dealt with the winter season of driving ;).
and dont check there tyres before they set out (even so I do check mine I still had a blow out yesterday lol)
or just to put it simple shite drivers in general hahaha was out on a delivery today and past a crash between a civic 1.4 (old one) and a Mini cooper. both looked like write offs and the crash was on a brow of a hill and there was a junction on the top of the hill. so its obvious one pulledo ut onto the road the other person skidded into the other car. can easily be done tbh.

Shit driving.
It has been very dangerous out recently though, mega floods everywhere, very windy, bad visibility plus bad road conditions is never going to work out well. Had a few journeys recently where i've been glad to get home as it was so dangerous out!

50/50 tbh, either it's the driver - going ot fast, or just can't drive, or it's the roads, and you just underestimate.

Half the time its people being idiots and not thinking about the other innocent drivers on the road and driving like twats, but sometimes its no fault of their own! it can be due to bad weather ect....:)

Saxo's aren't known to be the safest handling car either thats on this planet..they are great if you know what your doing or are expecting abit of tailout action but if it comes at you when you dont expect it and if your in-experienced then that will end badly..
Also as said, the weather lately has been quite bad..

yeah i agree to some extent if the roads are realy dangerous it can be difficult but surely if the roads are dangerous you would slow rite down anyway so even if you do have an accident you do hardly any damage to you, the car, sign posts, fences, fields ect.

if its bad weather what speed should you really be doing in a 60mph zone? and also what is the car spaces you should do if its bad? oh and also what is the famous syaing EVERY theory book has in it?
to put it blunt if you cant basicly INSTANTLY answer that in your head then you should not be on the road lol.

I wouldnt be driving any more than 50, but depends on the road and the weather, you cant give a definatte answer to that.
Dont know about car lenghts depends on speed again, at a minimum 3 cars, max 10?

the saying is.
only a fool forgets the 2 second rule.
basicly if its bad weather you double the time. so 2 seconds becomes 4 seconds. car lenghts double aswell due to that factor.
black ice etc etc on a 60 zone should be driven at around 40-45 in a gear that does not have loads of rev to it i.e so you dont wheel spin lol. if its seriously bad then could even go down to 30 lol. thats usally when the road is fully snowed over and has hidden ice under it.
ahh the joys of doing advanced driving techniques and doing a skid pad lol. worth every penny I tell yah ;).

all you need to do is put some breeze blocks in the boot. just so the rear end is heavier.
alot of van drivers do exactly that aswell just so it kinda evens out hte balance a bit.

Is this a thread for slating young drivers?
I mean this with all respects but some people just blame young/inexperienced drivers when you all full well know this is not the case in many accidents, its the problem that Saxo's are shit in this weather! Be honest if I drove my Saxo like I drive my Landrover in the winter, the Saxo would end up in a hedge, its the car mostly, not the driver.
Its about the car sticking to the road, and try and stick to the road in a car that is not at all heavy and most of them without ABS.. it just wont work, stop blaming the driver.

makes me laught how arrogant and ignorant some drivers are. it makes me want to become a police officer so I cna just pull shit drivers over and say look im giving you 6 points for the simple reason your a shite driver now go home and read your theory book and do your hazard perception test again & again & again! lol

thats because the idiot was in the wrong gear. and the RWD bmw lost traction. was his own fault for not knowing his car well enought! i've had the back end go out in my bm a couple of times before and that was in the dry so I know for a fact there even more nimble in the wet.

I am not going to insure my saxo before this conditions finish for sure lol.
You cannot really make every 17 year old an even some older experienced people learn how each of their cars handles in different conditions etc. Its just people who really do care about it, and those who dont then just pass and drive as usual on any conditions I guess... :)

I struggle to adapt to cars, I went from a learner 1.0 Corsa, to a 1.8 Landrover and was shitting myself last winter, then got a VTR for the summer.. I haven't got the bollocks to drive in the winter in a car that loves ditches.
The only reason I said what I did is because not all young drivers drive like complete twats, I can't wait for the thread from a 30something year old telling us that he crashed his Saxo.

50 in a 60 zone in this weather?
You go around a blind corner on a country road(all corners are blind...) at 50, the road is covered in leaves and also flooded, it is raining and dark, you aquaplane, you can't control the car, someone comes the other way, you can't see fuck all, you crash.
Alternatively, someone has stopped in the road, you have 10m to stop from 50mph in a saxo in the wet. You crash.

basicly yes but we have all read it. and the idea of the test is so you dont forget the stuff. even more so if your young. if your an old fart then fair enought you wont know all the stuff we would get to know when we did our tests in lets say the past 5 years. it is basicly ignorance of people wanting to learn to drive to either say to there mates yay look at me im coooler. but there are other people who go in at the same age range who want to past there test so they can say go to work/see bf/gf and so on!
tehre are alot of factors to why people actually go in to pass there test.
il pop the question (may aswell) WHAT WAS THE MAIN REASON YOU PASSED YOUR TEST (i.e why did you go to get a driving licence?)

I've gotta say, i have been saved by ABS quite a lot of times in bad conditions in my long driving career in saxos and similar. I'd have crashed a LOT of times if i had been driving VTRs for all of these years, but that's why i went straight to a VTS at 19... And yes i can cadence brake, but no person can stop as well as ABS on snow/grit/leaves. And when you emergency stop, you don't have time to think about brake pedal modulation and cadence, you have 2 or 3 seconds to stop, just mash the pedal...

driving in the winter in any car should not be fun anyways lol. we as drivers HAVE to be more alert. bollocks to having fun in this crap weather I just want to get home safe and not get anyone else involved in an accident lol.
this is another thing about drivers awareness to driving. how many of you changed your engine oil for winter conditions. its stupid little things like this that people should know. dam last week I told my sister off because she drove around with her washer bottle empty LOL I was like you got asked what that fcuking bottle was in your driving exam and now you forget to fill thye bugger up WHEN ITS WINTER!. she started to cry then actually said sorry to me. the point I was making to my sis was I care for family and want to make sure there cars are upto par for the roads!

The things I would do to have ABS in my Saxo, Just for peace of mind if I do have to stop quick, I have been close to crashing once, I just ripped up the handbrake to stop going forward and to end up going sideways, good fun :y:

I genuinely hate driving in this recent weather, did a 120 mile journey the other day, pissing down with rain so hard you could barely see all the way back.

I've driven non ABS cars, i just prefer not to! My talents extend to driving a 2CV which doesn't even have a brake servo, as well as a 200bhp TBd saxo with R888s and no ABS to work and back in the autumn rain, i know how to cadence brake, i'm just not sure i could do it as consistently as the ABS does, and so repeatably, when tired etc...

yeh I tell yah if we was all vampires we would be fcuked when we get water glare lols.
other things I cant stand on blind corners is how people take different driving entries. that alone is really bad as the whole blind corner in wet cold weather becomes one BIG black ice spot. if people stayed in hte same driving line over time the heat/friction from the car tyres would remove the ice. (kinda the same when loads of cars drive on snow and use the same line of driving.

Just need to drive to the conditions tbh - for newer drivers, it takes a bit of time to refine your judgement on this sort of thing. But for the sake of allowing a bit more time to complete your journey, take it easy!
The best way to help with car control is get down an empty, secluded car park in adverse weather and have a play around imo.

funny you mention that. my instructor at the time also said something along those lines. said to get a feeling for your car take it to a car park and do a spin. just to see how the body weight gets shifted from side to side. said its not advisable to do it but I tell all my students to go do this but make sure the car park is empty!

my best mate has the most battered looking corsa, 3 holes in the exhuast and beeps his horn, swears at everyone and revs it like fuckk, i just want to crawl in a whole and die when im going anywhere with him, i do try to hide ha, bring on being able to drive myself aroun tbh :D

everyones killing their saxo's!
my tests next week and now im getting a vtr,
absolutely shitting it now lol
take your time enjoy your car if your cars modded then you will find some boy/girl racers flashing and signaling you for a race a know its tempting to give them a go but dont give them the satisfaction as iv learned few months back a guy (that i know ) had just passed his test for 2 days and had a 1.2 corsa b i had a 1.4 lupo 100bhp and he wanted to race so i just slowed down and let him past he must have been dead chuffed with himself beating a 1.4 but i had the last laugh theres a deep camber on the hill he was going to fast lost control and put his car in the field i had the last laugh on this 1 :clapping:

Best advice tbh
I hate it when im in MK, no offence intended Nicole but the place is full of twats (Mainly Corsa's n VW's) who try and race between roundabouts. And Just wondering, why are you selling the Westie before you passed your test? Only one of a few mango cars on this site that look good tbh

lol i love mk (: but obvs havent ben on the roads properly to experience the twats yet, altough have been in a fair few mates cars who would probably make up the twats that race you :P people even try and race my dad when hes using the mango haa.
and i got offered a vtr and decided i loved it (: then couldnt get it anymore, but had set my heart on it type thing? so found another one, just decided that its not worth putting anymore money into the mango if i eventually want something a bit moree oomphy lol :p and people will tell me to keep it and just wait and not modify it, but moddings fun and i want a nice looking car thats personal tome type thing and looks how i want it, but take that as a huge compliment and proper made me smile :) so thankyou!

that was the original plan tbh :) but couldnt do it for a few years cus im 17, and i don't have a job and can buy a mint vtr for about the same price as getting a few little cosmetic things done on the mngo  will probably end up getting a mango again and starting over in a few years, love the colour tons haa

so why go for a VTR? just get a VTS lols. for the sake of what an extra 20 bhp. go and have a look at the figures of a westie and a vtr ok! westie is like 80bhp vtr if its the mk2 shape is 98bhp. you'll be paying more insurance for what? a poxy 18bhp wahooo lets go mental lols. if you go for a vts then thats a different story 120bhp standard. BUT remember the age of the car! even a VTR wont be pushing out what it says it does on the book anymore UNLESS its been seriously well maintained.

both crashes i've had have been down to inexperience and just general cuntishness
most accidents are down to lack of experience. the few i have seen are where people just really aren't thinking about what they're doing!

Should be cap on car cc like motor bike's like..
1st year upto 1.1
+1 year 1.1 - 1.3
+2 year 1.3 - 1.6
+3 year 1.6 - 2.0
+4 year 2.0 - 3.0
+5 Anything
Would stop some crashe's from happening i think.
And if you did it like that by the end of the 4th year you would have 4 years no claims hopefully
Then you can get it protected for the 5th year when you can drive anything.

What a load of shite. I'm sorry, but my first car was a VTR, I now have a VTS which I've had since I was 18, I'm still alive, I haven't crashed.
Its not the car, it's the person that sits behind the wheel. Engine size has nothing to do with it.

to be fair if you want new drivers to be good at driving I honestly think there lessons should be done in High performancecars.
Reason I say this is they have a qualified instructor in the car with them. the new learner would have WAY more respect for powerful cars as they will have been trained up in one. so when they pass there test and go buy a small poxy 1.0 or 1.6 or something they will sit there and think OMFG this is shit slow. they wont even bother trying to drive the car fast as they would know the car just aint worth even trying to make it go fast!
they may respect the roads more which may result in them having to work harder at work, make them earn there NCB so they can then go get a powerful car.
think about it in a phycological way.
you pass yoru test after been in a monster ofa car, you then buy your first car which is crap slow, so that makes you want to drive safer as you know you need to build your NCB's up so you can attain a more powerful car.

I don't claim to be an amazing driver, and thanks for the idiot comment.
The first one to crash will be the one that drives like a twat.
Same situation with me and many of my friends, I had a 1.6, one had a 1.25, wrote it off. Two others had 1.4's, both written off, another had a 1.1, written off.

Trick question, they will both crash. But the vts driver will die because he was doing 90 into the corner where as the 1.1 driver could only manage 50 :p
On a side note; the only way you know fire is hot is if you go near it. Most 17 year olds just get to close to the flame and get burnt!

im not saying all crashes are down to inexperience because i know full well that some times the unexpected happens and theres nothing you can do about it.
i just think most people when they pass their test have 1 driving style because all they have been taught most of the time is road rules and safety. hardly any instructor will teach you proper car control they will only teach you what you need to know to pass your test.
if you want to know that you need to get into an empty car park and learn the characteristics of your car, or get on an advanced driving course or other kind of course that will teach you car control.
thats why at the moment i slow down when its wet im costantly checking my mirrors and i will be booking my self onto an advanced driving course at some point in the next year at hopefully getting skid pan courses

People can crash a 1.0L, people can crash a 6L, depends on the driver/conditions, not the engine size.

Saxo's aren't known to be the safest handling car either thats on this planet..they are great if you know what your doing or are expecting abit of tailout action but if it comes at you when you dont expect it and if your in-experienced then that will end badly..
Also as said, the weather lately has been quite bad..
Weather up north is really bad, so many stupid ****s getting their car stuck under bridges up here in flood waters higher than your car, yes - im sure you'll get through that fine... everytime it floods theres atleast 3-4 cars in the 2 bridges next to mine get flooded over the top of them, roads are not much better either..
I tend to drive safe after getting 3 points for being on my phone, as i dont want to be stopped or loose my license (give it till saturday, got to meet a constable about an "incident" which i still have no clue about, and it was over 2 months ago) drive at 50 on 70's etc, mainly because im fuel saving..
But tail action with the saxo is so easy to get especially in the wet, was taking the gf home tonight and it tailed out on a roundabout, but ive just got brand new tyres - so that dont help much... easily corrected though
Phyco paff, motorbikes arent limited ;)
Can get a hyabusa at 17 if you wanted and drive it on the road legaly, theres no cap, the only difference is that the motorbikes side "needs" a restictor to take the BHP down, but no one actually does this

lol sorry to be another one yet to prove your point wrong...
had a VTR at 17 and a VTS aswell but didnt insure that til i turned 18 years old.. and the VTS was cammed aswell so quite a quick car for a saxo..
also had a fiesta ST which i hated at 19.. looking at a mk1 focus RS tomorrow and im still 19... its the driver imo but i admit i did crash the VTR and i fixed it then got rid of it to pay for the VTS insurance :y:
it depends on the driver but imo after the first crash u learn a awful lot and dont tend to crash again :y:

if two 17 year old males were put behind the wheels of either two id say the VTS would be alot more likely hence high insurance grouping..
its faster? lol..
however it is dependent on the driver, i know a lad i worked with who got a scooby STI 2.5 turbo at 18... he hasnt crashed it yet and hes now 20 had it two years

Tbh if the driver wants to drive fast in a 1.1 they can, if they want to drive fast in a vts they can, but they will get to 70 that bit quicker. Limiting a car to age groups is just silly.
