Is there really a need to bin the standard 247mm front setup in favour of a 266mm setup?

My first vts had hi-spec 4-pot calipers when i bought it, and i fitted gti-6 brakes to my last 106 shortly after i got it, but since getting my current gti i have to say the brakes don't feel half as bad as i remember them being. Which brings me to my question...

I'm looking at upgrading my brakes, and want to know if there is much point changing front brake setup, or would i be just as well to spend the money on really good discs and pads all round with braided lines and good fluid? I was looking at getting the carbone lorraine rc5+ package, and brakeline package off kam-racing.

Bear in mind it is mainly a road car, but it will be seeing a fair bit of track action in the new year.

I recently got 266s and they fell alot better than the 247s tbh I would of got them sooner if I knew they were this good:y: I think the saxo should have got 266s straight from the factory as the 247 were pritty rubbish

I was just about to say, if its a road car then the 247mm are more than good enough, otherwise Citroen wouldn't have put them on it in the first place.
If you are going for track time, the 266mm set up is the better of the two; ie, 283mm. They are lighter in weight and easier to fit.
If you did want a 266mm set up, we can accomodate for the calipers you choose. So look on ebay for a pair of calipers. Then give us a call :y:

As above. Although you would be better off thinking about the disc/pad combi more than the size of disc.

A lot of people upgrade from standard but use the standard discs and pads from the car they were from. IMO you'd be better investing in a better set of pads and brake fluid before thinking of upgrading the side

Just get some good disks, pads, brake fluid and braided brakelines, will be good enough for road use :y:

Will a standard gti setup with RC5+ pads, maxtorq discs, braided lines and good fluid be good enough for occasional track work though?

From reading posts on rallye register where most people do trackdays, it seems about half of them keep the standard brakes and the other half go all out and fit 4-pot setups.

If you're going to have a few track days personally i would invest in some 266's with decent discs/pads, I have 247's on with greenstuff pads & uprated discs and tbh they're not much better than standard I'm hoping to get some soon (bought some but never received :( ) Apparantly so much more braking power on 266's over 247's and on track that's what you need.

If you use descent parts on standard it is more then enough. The CL pads are very good but will eat everything they touch.

And when i say uprated discs i mean maxtorq, brembo etc not just 'uprated' that they say at normal shops. They are not uprated.

Boyes the reason you think that is because greenstuffs are standard replacements. They are shit, mine destroyed themselves on track very quickly.

Just use 5.1fluid, real uprated discs and mintex/CL/pagid/mintex.

I have a customer running this setup in Saxmax...
Seems happy.
