And not due to wankerish driving.

Drove home from work just now, and on a slight downhill bit was doing 40 in 5th. The car started juddering like it was firing on 3 cylinders, so i dropped it to 3rd hoping i could keep the revs high enough for it not to stop, as it was only about 4 miles home.

It got worse, and cut out when i dropped the clutch so i popped it back up and continued on. When i got to a traffic jam in a small village (about a mile onwards) it didnt sound healthy and a rrreally bad smell of petrol entered the car.

I took it off the main road, opened the bonnet and found this:

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/4662/04122009793.jpg

Main petrol supply to the fuel rail off. When i looked down the road there was petrol all over the floor and i had lost a quarter of a tank. That fluid in the picture is petrol.

There really was no rational explanation for this coming off, nothing was banging against it, i havent taken it off, not even touched it in the 3 months ive had the car. Just chose today to come off.

I just knocked on a door, got a bucket of water, drenched it all down, reconnected and drove home.

Has anyone had this? Can it be cause by anything at all, as i dont want it happeneing again. Its secured now and i cant pull it off whatsoever no matter how hard i try.

Just a little warning, have a check that yours has snapped on properly?

Thanks
Paul.

that is scary mate, luckily you got back in one piece. just think if something had caused a spark in the road and lit that trail of petrol that had spilt...

Tell me about it. The car was outside a school too, i was shitting it even when i tried to run it with the bonnet open after i reconnected that it would go up. I wouldnt have had a chance, i would have had to just dump it and get out of the way. I actually thought if it set alight would i have been able to get my headunit out.

:panic:

Not good juju.

Good man ;)

Yeah i donned some EDBA, grabbed an AFFF and a 25kg P25 just in case, popped the TIC on my back and maintained figures of eight while my mate adopted water wall. Then I coned down to ragged spray and broke it up. Watcher was in place for about an hour ;)

Cromwell bone mics were shit as usual though.

IF i showed you it it would represent me shirtily restarting it up with petrol down a main road, local schoolkids looking at me (in full uniform), and me shitting it that its going to set alight. Not ready for that kind of embasrasment yet :D :D
