you can only do it on line at the mo if its your first or second tax i tried it and you need special codes and stuff!! you could have asked you insurance to send a slip tho as you needed to tax the car they would have sent it next day

I was under the impression you can not tax a car unless you provide them with a certificate of motor insurance and an MOT certificate (if applicable). The online tax system is very good. I know you have to wait for your tax disc but for some reason, I'm not too sure on how accurate their certificate checks are.

Arent you allowed a 7 or 14 day period after your tax has expired to have it taxed? You normally get a reminder approx. two weeks before the tax is due to run out so taxing it online shouldn't be a problem. That is of course if you haven't recently purchased the vehicle and the car still being in the previous owners name.

DVLA do suck, i think everyone knows that.

I bought my car like 3 days before the tax ran out, because the owners had switched forms etc they never sent me a feking new renewal form and then the buggers fined me 40 pound, (witch i diden't pay). So they bumped it up to 80. Then i got scared and paid it.

I even wrote them a letter explaning the circumstances and all they said was, 'It's not our fault, we sent the renewal form. The previous owner should have give it to you'. Shame i never talked to the previous owner after we exchanged car for cash.
