Fitted a wheel bearing on sunday, front right. Its started to go already :wall:

i changed the driveshaft a month ago and it was shorter than the one that was on my car originally. It came from an 02 plate vts.

Ive heard of tapered and non tapered driveshafts, dont know if this could cause a bearing to go?
Ive got a 2000 VTS

yer can do, take ur chassis number to citroen and get the next one from them, ask them to bring up a diagram so u can see the end of the driveshaft to see which one your car should have

Cheers guys!

So a 2000 VTS will need a Mk1 driveshaft?

And why would this wreck a bearing?

if the replacement shaft came off an 02 it will be the tapered type as shown above, if your hubs were designed to take the non tapered shaft then the driveshaft nut will not clamp everything together properly, allows the bearing to run loose and destroy itself.

It isn't mark 1 and mk 2. Iirc the tapered shafts were brought in during January 1999. Possibly June. But it was definately 1999 officially.

There are always odd ones to the rules but my car is a T reg and has tapered shafts.

Te length may have caused it. As the shaft may not have been able to bed neat with bearing face so that would cause it to wear in no time.

Was the replacement shaft definately off a VTS?

It was the one on the left that i bought off an 02 plate vts. The one on the right i had on originally.

The one on the right is the tapered one yes?

Yes the right side one in the photo is the later type tapered shaft (1999 onwards)

getting the wrong one will chew through bearings.

yes, as far as i'm aware thats the type that SHOULD be fitted on an 02, broke 3 2000/2002 saxos in the past couple of weeks and all had this type fitted

It was definently off an 02 plate VTS, it must have been changed or have different hubs, am i right in saying this?
