Anyone done it?
Dropped my 3Gs when getting it out of my pocket, landed screen first on the pavement and smashed the screen.
Functions fine, no problem with the screen itself its just the glass on the top thats smashed.
Watched the youtube video and it looks pretty simple to do, just wondered if anyone has tried it and has any tips?

Take it to apple. they do it if its under warranty. or take out insurance, wait 15 days then claim.

Its really not simple to do, far from it since its produced by the knob-heads known as apple who wont even let you change your own battery :wall:
Mine has dead pixels and i am not paying apple to do it since they lock and erase everything off the phone at the same time. Sucks tbh

How many dead pixels do you have? Their policy is that if the dead pixels affect the way the phone looks or performs they will give you a replacement.

About 8 lines going from the left of the screen to the centre. Each about 0.5mm thick.

Take it to an apple store and they'll replace it for you.
I have insurance through my bank for 1.25 a month ;)
30 bucks excess but a brand new phone!

they dont if you drop it as thats not covered by warranty. They cover hairline cracks, but not when its smashed in the corner and radiating out.
In the videos its a case of remove the two screws at the bottom, undo the 3 cable clips, then remove 3 screws from one side and 2 the other.... whats difficult about that? lol, fatal last words.

Yeah then that voids your warranty for when you need them!

Well you would need to use iTunes and also De-Jailbreak it, then re-jailbreak it. and install all your apps again.

All you get is all the apps for free and it can be used on any network
But everytime there is an update you have to wait for a jaibreak of the new update so you can update, which is a pain in the arse!

Yeah either from the phone or on your computer and sync with iTunes
well a jailbreak update is needed for every apple update and not updating leaves you susceptible to hacks etc... And yes, it is completely reversible :y:

will report back on how the repair attempt goes.
warranty is void if anyone other than apple replaces the screen, and not paying them 200 quid to do it.
also your warranty is already technically void if you have a jailbroken iphone.

anyone know if i can use another sim in the iphone 3gs and still get internet if its apart of the sims package,
i intend on buying one soon but im gonna jailbreak it then put a cheap sim in it that wasnt designed for the iBone. will the internet work fine? as all the phone shops ive been in said the internet wont work unless its an iphone sim, which i think is wrong hopefully.

standard sim card in the iohone, not iphone specific.
Hit problems yesterday morning.... woke up and put the iphone in a pint of water, it died, however put it on the radiator and when i got in from work it was working again, but the backlight for the lcd was off.
SO took the phone apart last night and it was still a little damp inside. I have replaced the screen, and am now waiting for all the internal parts to dry out fully / properly and then I will put it back to gether and let you guys know how I got on!
