How much would a Focus ST be second hand? If you could get it cheap enough that?http://www.tuningnews.net/news/080428a/ford-focus-st-2008-uk.jpg

Iv had the ibiza, been thinking lsd, cupra r brembos and garrett big turbo conversion hello 350bhp! My best mates selling up for an ibiza cupra r so maybe something diff. Plan for the ep3 would be a charger anyway so would be a beast of its own, Just thought what was the point in throwin 6-7k at a 106 when i could at something else and have an animal!

Bore me tbh only focus i would get is an rs (old or new).
And as for decent ep3 for 5k easy enough with 70k and fsh not a problem.

Check on insurance first tho as there imports so cost more..

evo 4? but will hurt you on insurance lol
tunability is endless on such engines ;).

14th December 2009, 15:17
Depending on your tuning budget your probably best sticking with a turbo. As great as the honda Vtec engines are I can't believe the cost of mods per BHP compared to a turbo engine.
E.g. a nice well known induction kit is around the same price as a stage 1 turbo remap.
I've got a mk4 Ibiza Cupra (diesel unfortunately due to my mileage). Its remapped and comes with the AP Racing 4 pots. Amazing car and I can easily get 450miles to a tank or 500 if I push it.
I'd recommend the 20VT for you. 180BHP standard well know engine with lots of tuning potential a simple stage one revo map will push you over the 200BHP mark. Get some nice Coil Overs and a whiteline rear ARB and you'll be smiling all day long.
I’m moving on to the new TSI engine in Feb. My new Ibiza Cupra Bocanegra is being delivered then. Cant wait!

14th December 2009, 15:26
e36 M3 Evo. Tbh, you dont need to tune it, it will take you ages to master the thing anyway ...
Especially in this weather.
mardon
14th December 2009, 15:27
Nah mk4 golf's are too big and heavy. Waste all that power you could get out of one with the right engine. They called anything with a 2.0ltr a GTi back then, was a dark dark time. R32 on the otherhand... (but you wont get one for 5k).

Had an ibiza cupra, is a possibility again astra gsi mk4 in arden blue also on the cards. Tuning budget won't really be a budget what ever i decide on im going to go nuts. Obviously over time but really want to build a monster! Fully forged and stroked to a 2.5 ep3 charged is looking sexual atm. Easy to dream and speculate lol!

15th December 2009, 01:58
theres a turbo ep3 on pistonheads at the moment

If you're boosting an EP3 then do it.
Supercharger ftw

15th December 2009, 02:07
A lot of water to go under the bridge yet but its in the pipelines. Cant imagine the lag with vtec and turbo tho?
Mieran
15th December 2009, 02:10
Another thing to consider is handling.
Fair enough you can extract crazy power from an Ibiza and will be fast, but it will never be as good as a Type-R in the corners.
Btw what happened to the crazy rallye idea and why go jap? lol
chris1111
15th December 2009, 02:51
i would buy a saxo and stick a turbo in it lol

EP3 Civic's aint the best cars to tune unless your going down the supercharger or turbo route. I had both cars last year a EP3 Civic Type-R and Ibiza Cupra-R which was tuned to about 245bhp. Very tuneable engines with IHI conversion will easily reach over 300bhp. Both you will find for under 5k, civics will be about 70k-ish miles though. Personally I would go for Ibiza Cupra-R (only 75 made, brembo brakes, oz super-t's standard, gauges, 180bhp engine etc) or DC2 Integra JDM.

FLOL.
Really, have you owned one then ... i have & it was in no way a money pit lol.
Considerably more sensible from a monetary perspective than buying a CTR & then tuning it.
286-321bhp out the box, RWD & no traction control. Better than a CTR in every single way imho.

ep3 civic would be the best bet, any other jap car is way over priced especially the dc2's regardless of their pedigree its a 10 year old car now and £5k is bloody ridiculous. same goes for the ek9 but im actually being dumb enough to be on the lookout for one!
