I've got one.

It helps in some aspects, I.E installing apps that are in cydia that would never be allowed in the app store... but you have the downside that if you dont know what you are doing you can fuck it up pretty easily.

You have to ask yourself, why do you want to do it?

If you actually have a reason, I can help you :P

Does this make your iPhone slower haz_pro?

Mine has slowed down very slightly, but its worth it for all the extra features it gives you, jailbreaking is no where near as difficult as it used to be, with blackra1n you literally press a few buttons and you are done, if it messes up just load up itunes and restore your phone back and try again

What he said, difference in speed is minimal for what you get in return.

you download the themes in cydia and it installs them into winterboard, then you open winterboard and activate the themes/part of themes, you want to use. send me a pm if ur still having trouble.

Is it worth Jailbreaking? I had problems with my unlock bar not actually moving across, only did it when charging from the wall socket. But seemed to have problems when I was charging and trying to do anything.

Like loading contacts up it would click on photos instead and load up app store!! lol

As soon as i unplug from charging it works ok. Just not entirely sure i want to go back to a jailbroken phone. If I'm honest im a little shady on everything with iPhone. Im jsut a hardcore PC techy :)

To the guy above you might want to reformat the phone and rejailbrake it, i have never had this problem.

I've fucked off Jailbreaking, everytime I do it, I get the poor iPhone in Recovery Mode everytime I switch it on then off.

Doesnt make the phone slower from what I can tell, but you really dont gain alot like people say you do.

Just a few 3rd party apps and to be able to customize your Phone.

Plus it voids your warranty, which is guttttiing if it breaks!

Ry,

I've re-jailbroken mine with blackra1n. Its unbelievably easy!

As for the warranty, yes it voids it, but if you un-Jailbreak it they have no way of finding out ;)

Look here.. This is what my iPhone 3GS keeps doing. Its on 3.1.2.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/iphone-jailbreaking/1123681-phone-always-going-into-recovery-mode-after-jailbreak.html

I cant jailbreak it without it going into Recovery Mode, I wouldnt mind getting a few wallpapers / themes on it but its too much hassle!

help me lol

ahhhh yes, i think i mentioned this in a previous post.

With the new release of the 3gs, the boot rom has changed. This means it can only handle a tethered jail break, basically everytime you turn the phone off it has to be re jailbroken, sucks doesnt it?

Until they figure a way to get around it i wouldnt reccomend jailbreaking as it would be a lot of hassle to have to keep jailbreaking, especially as alot of the stuff you can install from cydia require a reboot.

Ha, yeah I'll wait til some l33thax0r comes along and fixes it for me

MarkyG

That is the only problem with blackra1n. But as said earlier the BootROM has changed so there is no way around it at the moment.

Fortunately my battery doesnt die easily as im not on it 24/7 so it is no problem for me, plus i have a charger with me at all times in case it does switch off, so its not too bad

Don't ever send your iPhone to somebody to get it Jailbroken. I will help you for free.

MSN: cj.skate@hotmail.com

Basically, the iPhones/iPod Touch's Operating system is locked to only allow signed apps to be installed to the iPhone/iPod touch.

The only people who can sign apps is Apple, so basically they can control what applications go on the device, so installing unsigned apps unlocks a whole new world of features on the iPhone - for example Apple restrict applications viewing the system files, whereas unsigned applications have no restrictions - this allows you to modify the system and add more features, skins e.t.c.

Basically the act of jail breaking is removing the check behind the system.

Then once the device is jailbroken, usually an (unsigned) application called Cydia is installed. Cydia is an AppStore equilivent, but for unsigned applications.

Your iPhone won't slow down after jailbreaking. It may slow down if you are to start running applications in the background as this uses more RAM (random access memory) of the iPhone, much like what happens with your PC - you open more applications/programs your computer will run out of ram and start writing to the hard drive (writing to ram is faster than writing to hard drive)

Anyway, that was a long one..
Any other questions about iPhone's e.t.c.
Feel free to ask me, Registered Apple Touch Developer :P

By the way, Blackra1n sucks so bad in my opinion.

One rule I always use.

Only ever trust the iPhone Dev team: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

Blackra1n isn't developed by the iPhone dev team = don't trust it.

I've used BlackRa1n before and it's always been a bit dodgy and I prefer to do it properly.

It's not all of the 3gs' only the latest versions of the 3gs have a new bootrom.
It's not really that you have to re-jailbreak it, you merely have to help it with booting by connecting it to your pc and running a command, it's the same as the iPod Touch 3g - Don't worry, it'll be cracked. :P

Back when I had an iPod Touch 2g on a tethered jailbreak I used to run linux on my iPod video - run a lead from my iPod Video to my iPod touch and run the command from my iPod Video and boot my ipod touch up on the move like that :P
