Following on from the other thread about Top Gear and the BBC thinking about finishing it. What do you think needs to change on it?
Would you keep the same presenters? imo you have to have Clarkson as thats Top Gear, but i think maybe we could loose Hammond for a new presenter as he's become abit to commercialised and fake. What about Tiff Needel in place of Hammond and have him doing more of the serious driving and car related stuff?
Thoughts people?

i like your idea, swap hammond for tiff!
I quite like may tbh

Nothing needs changing presenter wise IMO, just needs to be a bit more like it was a couple of seasons ago

Yeh IMO if Hammond went then all the banter would be dropped. Its always two ganging up on the odd one out. JC and JM against richard for his advertising ploys. RH and JM against Clarkson for being a moron and loving POWER to much, which leaves Clarkson and Hammond against JM for being such a pompus, detail loving fart! Keep the presenters, change the challenges :y:

Keep it as is, just make the films a little more serious sometimes. some of them are getting slightly rediculous now.
But please dont bring over any of the 5th gear presenters over. they wouldn't fit in.

naa i dont think the presenters should be changed, hammond cracks me up and jeremy does too... to me it wouldnt be top gear without them 3 ... the one where they drove down the sand hills recently in the range and toyota was great.... well, Hammond pushed his down the hill lol

Even though Tiff is an awesome driver he's possibly one of the most annoying people in the world to watch on TV.

i dont think it would be the same without those 3 presenting it, even james may,

I suppose its if you like the current set up of staged messing around, which i admit is funny, but its becoming abit silly. Or if you want a more car related show, which after all is what it was supposed to be.

challenges are good but on these latest ones who gives a fuck you wanna know which is the best out of a certain catagory and then you can put the odd silly one in like football or ice hockey:)

Yeh I think still stick with the same 3, just do it like it used to be, not forced funny, it doesnt need to be a laugh a minute, just a few jokes here and there with some proper car reviews

Plato instead of May. May just seems to come out with endless waffle and rubbish these days. Plato's a nice arrogant racing driver who'll give the other two plenty of stick i reckon.

My thought are that they changed it to what they think people want to see rather than old school top gear which was alot better. Itrs not about cars any more its about entertainment value and trying to win award at the baftas. Bring back old Top Gear!

Clarkson + May + Tiff FTW...
Personally i find hammond annoying.
Get back to reviewing cars instead of dicking about aswel.
It can be good to watch at times, but the old top gears are the best so get back to that imo
Plato is a cock, in person and on tv.

love it how everyone is on aobut dont bring any of the 5th gear presenters over.
eh tiff was part of top gear at one point and was beside clarkson lol.
Plato is an arrogant t**t met him a few times and by hell he loves himself. if there was a way to carry around a full sized mirror so you could see yourself he would be the first to buy one!
anyways as I said in the other thread these are my thoughts.
1. scrap star in a priced car (but I know they wont) as they make money from that!
2. get in another sort of stig to go head to head with the stig (leave the pro driving to the real race drivers in other words)
3. Make the news section more ofa proper Product review section sat navs, speed camera detectors and so on. (instead of them ending up arguin or been sarcastic to each other) that after a while gets annoying and spoils the news section.
4. stop spending money on stupid pointless trips to the artic, chile and so on (we as viewers honestly learnt f**k all about cars) all we got to learn was there is polar bears in the arctic and in south america there are steep slopes which you may drive off?????????..yeh cheers top gear il keep that one in mind next time I go drive in those sort of conditions pffffff...all that is, is a sort of adventure holiday for JC,JM & RH. if thats the case then please give me a phone call il happily do that stuff for the BBC!
5. start reviewing cars we can afford even if its only one/two reviews a show its still better then watching clarkson drive a car shit around the same old top gear track....
6. start acting more proffesional. after a while watching three fully grown men on tv act like children gets bloody annoying and you just want to slap them and tell them to grow up!
7.invite car clubs once a show to go head to head on the top gear track (kinda like slips) but its more for a leader board i.e Fastest Car club in the Uk
just my two pence :P

Don't change it imo. Makes me laugh when watching it and also alot of other people. It's only the folks who like to complain about everything that do.

have you ever watched one of the very first top gear shows back in the early 90's? watch one of them. then watch one say 2003-ish then watch one now.
you'll soon see how stupid and how much of an ego booster it is for the presenters..... the show has become a shadow of its former self.

> No star in resonably priced car, as i normally just come on here when that's on as it's pretty boring.
> Get tiff needell to do the car test's WITH jeremy and they can race, give there opinion's instead of just Jeremy's which i think are sometimes a bit too harsh on cars and a little bit biased.
Other than that i still like the program and think it's excellent :)

Yes, i have, i've watched the program the whole time i've been growing up tbf as my whole family is heavily into cars. And as i said, the program makes me laugh, gives me something decent to watch on a Sunday night (thank god) and it's getting good ratings... so it can't be that bad.

Point 1 and 2 are all right, but the other five are awful. Don't want a reviews show. I have internet or fifth gear for boring reviews. I want entertainment. I thought this weeks show was good, that's what they do best.

Tiff, Clarkson and May would be good.
Star is reasonably car to go as it's rubbish. Start doing more challenges, specials and so on like the other night. It needs to be like it was about 2 series ago as it was brilliant then.

there would be entertainment from point 7 would there not? imagine a saxo club goin against a corsa club just for example! or the nteh serious clubs ferrari vs lambo clubs! there would be sarcastic remarks from members, rea everyday normal people would geta chance to be on telly! they could take something like that and twist it up loads so its funny at the sametime EASILY!
point 6 the whole reason its losing ratings is because its to daft/ un proffesional. the most proffesional aspect to top gear at present is the camera work. anything else me and you could bloody do!
point 5. review one or two cars a show would take up what? 10-15mins of the show...which tiff could do.... big deal lol.
point 4 id like you to tell me what have you honestly lerant from there lil trips? and what stuff you could use in real life? they could honestly make a sub section to top gear and just have them goin on trips for an hour. and then have another top gear show that is about cars. the whole point to the brand name TOP GEAR is about cars watching clarkson take the piss out of hammond or watch them paint words on a car aint telling me anything informative or useful.
if they went out on a special trip and reviewed the cars whilst on the move properly then yeh thats fine but they dont. they would rather get JM a car and then see a lorry reverse into it! or try and make a clio go upside down in a tunnel. its a waste of fkin money.
dont get me wrong top gear is a good show but its starting to show cracks which if they dont watch it they will be to big to fill in again! RH looks alot older and roughter, JM is showing more grey hair, clarkson is becoming more rinkly and is loosing more hair. it needs new young blood. things evolve amd its time Top gear does aswell!

Exactly what I was thinking, they need to incorporate some of the old top gear, review cars I might actually buy. Not take the piss when people complain and do a shite review of the fiesta and drive it in the sea. And also what the fuck was clarkson doing in that twingo? Fucking it up on purpose?
They need more of this stuff:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q2htEzjx8E
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP7Hw9oTNso&feature=related
If you watch them you'll deffinately see where the clarkson on today's top gear comes from. You've got his much loved banter, but it isn't ott. And he's actually reviewing.
Today he's just gotten too up himself I think
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYIyCmcuQno
Stupid review. 'Is it green? Yes it is' because the car's green, not even that funny, but worse, he then moves on and doesn't tell us whether it is green.
The thing is new top gear is an entertainment show. The old one was more about the cars and telling us something worthwhile.
Having watched both the new and old top gear when I have to say I prefer the old one. The new one is getting stupid now tbh.
I what they need to do is bring back tiff, VBH and quentin. Bring back some worthwhile reviews. Make the news funny, but worth watching. Stop wasting money. Why go abroad? I like the challenges where they have to buy cheap cars and things like that, but when they raced that bmw it cost them something like 11 grand to buy it.
Sorry for the long post.

agree'd they could easily have two sides to top gear. the daft side with adventures, challenges etc etc with JC,JM,RH..
then they could have the serious side with Vicky,Tiff & Quinten<< yes we may say they are annoying but the bottom line is they put across the info we wanted to hear!
and then say once a series have them go head to head on a big massive gumball style challenge lol.
the problem i see with this is. if they went down that route they would have three extra presenters to pay for. twice as many cars to fuel, directors/producers/camera and audio crew would work longer shifts.
it would all come down to one thing...MONEY!

It's clear some people want factual reviews and some people want to be entertained.
Top Gear used to be about reviews, then this thing called the internet came along which kind of makes this redundant, as viewing figures for Fifth Gear and Top Gear will show us.
I'd rather just be entertained, I don't want to learn anything.

the rason 5th gear went down the swanny was purley because the presenters tried to come across funny. but infact you could tell it was so fake. they also had way to many people on the team what was there? 5 or was it 6 presenters who ALL where bone idle and non was quick witted nore funny. that wasa disaster waiting to happen. oh then they tried to do challenges oh I wonder where they got that idea from hmmm. so it was bound to be axed! it had nothing to do with them doing reviews at all! they still had the supercars and so on!
tbh if we are been honest about it. RH's crash I bet you got at least 2million more people watching top gear! horrific accident but a perfect PR oppertunity.
Top gear was about car reviews but giving some slight entertainment aswell. now it may aswell be called........... TOP GEAR LITE! its mainly about three guys having fun and making money. which as I previously stated any of us could do that! it aint exactly hard to get in a car drive it around a track whilst talking and then do some donuts now is it? if you got two of your mates who you knew was funny and quick witted and did a daft car review for a laught uploaded it to youtube. advertised ita bit on foorums the viewing figures would go up and people would most probs ask for more! its really that simple tbh!

Well yeah, they tried to somehow copy a more successful show. It didn't really work, your right.
I don't think 5th Gear died because the presenters tried to be funny though. The program hasn't really died anyway because it was never really alive. I doubt the viewing figures have changed much over it's life time. It's dead because it's not (as) good.

thing is 5th gear never really changed and when they did try to it was to late top gear had already nabbed nearly all the viewers lol, top gear has changed with the times and its now at the stage top gear needs to change again! its something non of us can avoid and this is what the directors at the BBC are picking up on early. do you in say 15-20 years time want to see a 60+ year old JC in a car talking with his teeth falling out..I dont think so lols.
there is a saying for all of this.
TO MUCH OF A GOOD THING IS A BAD THING!
Nothing on top gear suprises us anymore. half the jokes hammond does look staged so you know something crap is gonna happen, he needs to stick with been a presenter and not an actual actor as he wont win no awards for his acting skills trust me lol. JM is doing other shows his Toy story show is getting massive reviews, His other show that goes on about machines was a hit on discovery channel! clarkson has done nothing except release stupid dvd after stupid dvd which are basicly waterd down edits of top gear but with just him in it. and RH is doing wipeout which is shite and he did brainiac which was also a flop on Sky1 hence why they had to get vic reeves in to bring it back alive with some real comedy!
problem is everyone has this myth of JC is top gear is he bollocks. clarkson could leave right now pretending he is ill replace him with someone younger BUT not as quick witted as JC (that way people cant say he is trying to be like JC) and the figures would drop fora bit until they got used to the new presenter. then the next series have clarkson back and the figures would most probs go up fora bout 3 shows then they would slowly flutter down again!
Ryan

theres only so many times hammond can accidently leave the handbrake off of a car ontop of a hill and it 'accidently roll down it' and it be funny.
New ideas needed, a new look, the show was popular when it was a reviews show and entertainment, it can be both and it still caters for a diverse audience.

I'd agree with some of the others that Tiff Needel is a good shout. The guys a natural talent behind the wheel and is more of a traditional road tester. some find him boring/annoying but he was always into the drivers cars and he knew how to handle them properly, and for that I always enjoyed watching him. Can see him and JC having some good duels in serious machines and getting some decent roadtesting done.
Tiff over Hammond IMO..
Still like TG and everything, but a bit more stuff about these machines called erm.. CARS would be nice once in a while.
