Hi Everyone!!!!

My name is Amy and i have recently passed my test (few days ago!) I have a 1998 Citroen Saxo Scandal and love it!!!!

Slight problem though is that the immobiliser (standard key with transponder not keycode) keeps kicking in intermitently, and of course and the moment you least want it to happen!

Is there anyway to disconnect this? Bypass it, or something? Someone i know says that they can replace the ignition coil for me and that would do the job?

Im posting this in the problems forum as well, but thought i would add it here as it is my official first post :)

Thanks

Amy

Hi!

The immobiliser shouldn't kick in when you're driving, it is only supposed to be active when turning the ignition on before starting.

If you remove the immobiliser black box(small box under dashboard next to fuse box) while the engine is running, it permanently disables it.

Hi Alex,

It doesnt kick in whilst driving but when i try to start the car. (I have found that its on cold and mainly wet mornings)

So when you say disable the immobiliser. Is it literally a case of unpluging the box under the dash? (I havent looked for it as i didnt know what to look for, first car and all )

And i have to do it whilst the engine is running?

Silly question but, it wont just stop the and permanently immobilise the car will it?

Thankyou again for helping me :)

Hi Amy,

Welcome to the nut house!

If you wish to disable your immobiliser you can look here http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=224599 obviously down to own risk!

You said about it "kicking in" Do you mean whilst you're driving it the light flashes now and again?

Hi Gaz,

Sorry dont think i have explained myself very well  .

It doesnt kick in whilst driving, only when i try to start the car. Took me half an hour to get out of work car park yesterday as ithe immobiliser kept coming on. :wall:

Thankyou for the link, i have no idea what immobiliser I have without looking at all the documentation or at the box itself.

Ill have a look afterwork tonight and hope that it works. It wont cause any long term damage to the car though will it? Or invalidate my insurance?

Thanks again everyone, your all being wonderfully helpful!!!!

Hello Amy,

Yes it will invalidate your insurance if you declared you have it on there. When you start up the car do you turn it straight away of, turn it 3/4, hear some sort of whiring noise, let it stop then start the car?

Also might be worth disconnecting the battery for 24 hours for the ECU to reset as this can help.

Hi Gaz,

I turn it so that the electrics come on (the immobiliser light then flashes) then when i turn it fully the engine trys but it wont turn over. The guide you gave me looks really helpful. Im going to have a look at it afterwork and try to sort it out.

Thanks again to everyone, you have all been really helpful!!!

Might sound stupid, but try cleaning your key.

Had a simular issue with one of my previous cars, a quick clean of the key and it worked perfectly from then on.

Ok,

This is the first one, this is the fuse board:

<a href="http://s885.photobucket.com/albums/ac57/bassplayingmonkey/?action=view&current=FuseBoard.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/ac57/bassplayingmonkey/FuseBoard.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

And this is what i think is the immobiliser (the blue thingy) :

<a href="http://s885.photobucket.com/albums/ac57/bassplayingmonkey/?action=view&current=Immobiliser.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/ac57/bassplayingmonkey/Immobiliser.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Small caveat.....bet i have somehow done this wrong ha ha ha

The orange wire looks like a seatbelt pretensioner wire which is wierd for it to be up there...

Thats not the imobiliser though... Check behind the fuseboard, Thats where mine was.

The immobiliser should be just to the right of the fuse box.

Hi amy the blue plug you showed in your first photo is from the wiring of your airbag and seat belt pre-tensioners so dont unplug that. ive had the same problem with my car and it was caused by a bad earth. try checking your 2 earth point on top of your gear box there easy to get to ones a big think black wire and ones a small green wire both just bolt to the outside of the gearbox. check there tight and then were go from there. hope this helps. james
