Right ive thought about joining the navy for agesss (if your just going to leave a :homme: comment dont bother commenting!) ...but have kept putting it off for some reason or another, well ive promised myself im going to apply in the begining of 2010. my grandads just passed away last week and he served 22 years in the royal navy and seeing all his pictures and personal memories of his navy life has made me want it even more!

anyway, the point in this thread..
IF i do go away, im only going to need a car for when im back on leave, which wont even be 2 months a year..
i have a perfectly fine car now, a 2008 Seat Ibiza Sport
but i still miss my saxo more and more everyday...
im thinking of selling the ibiza (bought it for £7500 in june) and getting a nice late mk2 VTR/VTS
simply because i wont be using it much and my ibizas just going to loose value as im away..

what do you think i should do?

Your Ibiza really is nice... of course everyone will tell you to get a Saxo. Ibiza is a much nicer, better built car.

Your call as you won't be using it much. I'd keep the Ibiza personally.

I know yates doesnt use his car at all really so can deffo see your point.

The only thing is you will loose money selling the ibiza anyway and could potentially end up with a saxo which is a money pit.

i love my ibiza mate, im just thinking the value will decrease loadssss when im away, and when i come to selling it it would be worth nothingg..
im expecting 90% of the people on here to say get a saxo, but i wanna know what people would really do IF they had to make the choice themselves..

Putting feck loads of milage on a car will depreciate it more than age to most people, hence why half of this forum allways say a car over 75k is shit and not worth buying.

You'll make enough money to pay it off anyway... I'd keep the Ibiza. Depreciation happens with every car.

personally id sell the ibiza and just get a car when your on leave. its one less thing to worry about when(if) you are away.

Keep the Ibiza and garage it when your away, miles will be low so will loose less money than a saxo. And more chance of it starting when you come back ;)

The Ibiza will hold more value than a Saxo as it's a VW car under the badge. Like already said it is a more reliable engine, I would suggest one thing as I know people who gone into the Navy you will be away for quite some time, make sure you have someone else drive it around a bit just to keep it going and run in good condition. Leaving a car still for too long it's not always the best of plans.

im a big fan of them Ibiza's, id personally keep it as its a nice presentable car that does kinda say "ive got some money" or if it was me in your shoes id sell it and get a Audi TT because the ibiza's worth about one of them (older TT's, but they look awesome) lol

yeah, i know... hairdressers car - but its really nice!

Mathematically.
You can sell your Ibiza for more than what you can buy a new saxo yes?
So if you wont be using it that much you can have a little extra spending money :)
And Saxos rule :p

personally i'd sell the ibiza and not bothing getting another car. Whats the point of forking out on years tax and insurance and to keep it running for the car to sit on a driveway? Doesn't seem worth it to me

the saxo is an old car now mate, most of the depreciating has been done.
whereas a 57 plate seat has plenty to lose...
saxos are like 1500 squid, cant see you losing more than a few hundred quid on a saxo.
the saxo will keep its value better you genius.

best answer yet, if ur gonna drive it less than 2months a year its not worth having a 7.5k car just sitting there, be stupid keeping it tbh unless u like losing money
whereas a runabout is cheap and still gets you around and u wont lose anywhere near as much, daft question really..
