View Full Version : Important! : Engine has mind of its own

I have a little old R reg saxo as a run around for my partner, its been a great car but it has suddenly started revving on its own accord, and the accelerator pedal then proceeds to go down on its own driving the car forward. Kinda dangerous.
Nobody knows what is causing this!! Does anybody have a tiny insight as to why this is happening?
Many thanks

The accelerator pedal physically moves on its own?

yes, it moves down on its own. You have to quickly take it out of gear, or shove your foot underneath the accelerator pedal to force it to stay where it is.

Ok, I believe your car has been posessed and is trying to kill you. Seek an exorcism right now!
Or give cleaning the ICV a try as per the guide in the FAQ thread

sounds as if your throttle cable is possibly getting wrapped on something and is pulling itself, have a look at the routing of the cable to make sure this isn't happening, if not, i have no idea, it won't be your ICV as that just governs what engine speed the car idle's at, there is not much that would cause the car to physically be revving itself.. very strange
is your pedal on securely? hasnt worked loose or anything?

it could be your choke sensor, if the ecu is telling it the engine is cold it could open up the butterfly valve and as the cable is connected to the butterfly valve that will move, causing your pedal to move

fair suggestion i wouldnt have thought that would be to the extent that the car would drive itself, fast idle would be around 1.5k rpm, thats hardly making the pedal hit the floor but you never know :geek:
