View Full Version : torsion bar squeak?

is it possible for the torsion bar to squeak? been getting a really slight squeak over bumps at low speed recently. since last night it got so much louder and frequent over every bump :wall:
my mechanic told me the torsion bars dry out sometimes and squeak. i cant feel any play in the wheel bearings and my torsion bars got greased up about a year ago when it got lowered (the proper way by top lads).

can anyone take a guess as to whats squeaking? not sure what side it is. is it worth wd40'ing and trying to tighten the end of the bars? thanks

could be the damper. mine squeeked before i changed them.

is there anyway to check the damper? isnt leaking and doesnt have any play if i push it side to side

Mine did this when i lowered the back end too.

Turned out to be a bracket that was rubbing the torsion bar. Can't remember which bracket.. But all i did it bend it back slightly.. And its never done it again.

So just check around on the torsion bar, for anything touching it. Might be the brake bias bracket.

but my car had been lowered a year ago, and a little squeak started a couple a weeks ago which has now turned into a louder more frequent squeak

Thats an easy one, ARB bolts on torsion bar need tightening.. There's a guide on here.

As said, is ARB plate bolts, be careful when tightening em as they snap semi easily

would a loose anti roll bar plate cause a squeak? poeople usually say it causes a clunk/knock

Can't imagine it making a knock tbh mate

More likely to be a squeek

LSOfreak

untighten the bolt, Although it will probably snap indoing so.

Then replace it with a new one and it should be alright.

I had the same problem with mine.

Okay if you wish, yes it's your torsion bars squeaking!

Personally i would take ten minutes outta my day to do up the ARB ends plates and try that first tho..

A little trick some friends taught me, spray the bolt with WD40, undo it a little, then do it up again, undo it more than previously, then do it up again (not tight duh) then keep doing this till it comes out, alot harder to break a bolt this way ;)

oh right cheers!

and if its already really tight (becuase i think it is when i checked it yesterday) , i remove it and grease it up and replace it anyway? why do i hammer the end of the arb btw?

dont do the bolt up too tight it ill snap and its hard as feck to get out specially when you break an easy out inside there...
