when i came to turn my car on, only 5 mins after it has been turned off the car was completly dead. asif the battory was dead. no lights etc.

i tried it again and the lights came on the dash but engine light was flashing and as it was flashing a tapping was coming from the ECU side of the car under the bonnet at the same time the flash happened.

i got some jump leads out to try start it, it started with the jump leads. then as soon as the cables came off it cut out.

we tried several times. and after a few attempts, when the ignition was going the revs shot up to 4K revs....

it hasnt started since ive taken the leads off.

could it be a new bat? alternator? or Fucked ECU or something?

please help!

The tapping under the ECU sounds like your fuel pump relay mate.

Steve.

the noise you get from under the ecu, does it sound like its kinda ticking?
if so it sounds to me like the multi function relay which is on the bottom side of the plate holding the ecu.i had similar trouble and after bying a new relay (bout £30 ish quid? ithink) fitted it and still the same.prob solved after lots of time and patience.the relay is earthed on top of the gear box with a 13mm bolt.it doesnt look like much just a green and yellow wire with a ring on the end.mmake sure this is secure.i moved mine to the main earthing point which comes down from the battery to the gearbox.
if the ring is just a bit loose and not earthing properly it will give you all sorts of trouble.
of course this may not the answer for you but hope it helps eliminate something it could be.

very similar to the problem ive just had fixed
i was driving when my lights went dim the clocks kept going on and off etc got a clicking noise keep happening etc it wouldnt start off the key after this but jump leads fired it up until removed i found it to be my crank pulley was wobbling around , so just got it fixed when its running do you get a squeeking/ rattlet noise?

cheers for those lads very helpfull. it does make sence, and ye its like a ticking of tapping noice.
think ill have to check it all out and see if the problem still arises. and no it doesnt make a squeeling or anything when it drives :)

thanks again

seemed to be the bat. got it changed over and its turning on fine. no ticking..

but its idling slightly high? could this be caused by my cluch going as i think it needs replacing also?
