Bad start to the year !!HELP!!

Last night I was driving home from a party and all off a sudden the dials froze and the lights went off. Then the head lights started flashing. So I pulled over and the car was idleing really high and reving asif it was cammed.. The car ten cut out. I tried starting it and it did nothing. I then thought I would bump start it. It ran fine for a minute the started going funny again and it cut out..
My thought was it could be the ecu or earth for the engine.
Does anyone have any ideas

could be a battery issue mate would get that checked first as its easy and cheap

yer i think the battery might be dead
but why will that make my car idle badly :s

coil pack could have gone, making a cylinder go to give it the bad idle and the the cammed feel could be it just running on 3 cylinders.

The reason it idles bad is I have no fuel return but when my car went funny it was ideling at about 4000 ad dropping to 3000 and
back to 4000

Fuses?? Have u checked all fuses under bonnet and in the fusebox inside??
