11 digit VIN number

Hi this isnt really anything to do with saxo's but you guys might know how to.
my dads MGB has a 11 digit VIN and we are trying to find out the exact date it was made because its not Tax exempt. on the log book it says the date the owner bought it and the date it was registered which are the same and it just misses the tax exempt status so anyone know how to decode a 11 digit VIN because its when the car was made not when it was registered

yeh but its 31st december 1972 and the car was registered in may 1973

i think there is one or two of the digits in the code that tell you the date of manufacture if you go on google n type in meaning of VIN codes for MGB it may bring something up! (maybe)

or you could find an mg club or specialist that will tell you the cars history...even better hpi it, it still works on classsics you know
