Maybe this should be in the insurance section so i apologise in advance.
I have been looking at certain Jap cars at minute such as MR2, Celica, FTO.
But my question is does it make a huge difference to insurance and what not if its an import as id love a GT4 celica but most are imports.
Any thoughts appreciated :y:

insurance is usually more expensive but the main problem i have considered is sourcing parts should anything go wrong. having said that i know of many people with supras and skylines so its upto you if youre willing to make the move, bear in mind that cars like the ones you mentioned will most likely be raped and need some serious money spent on them to make decent.

Yes it does make quite a difference with most companies. Imports are always considerbaly more to insure due to being a non-UK spec model, unknown security features and jst generally being non-UK spec in terms of performance, equipment etc, which insurance companies get very fussy about. Many Jap imported cars have already been modified, which insurance companies are weary of.
Interestingly, the Celica GT4 you mention is one of the cheaper Turbo Jap cars to insure when in UK spec. If you can find a UK spec model with FSH you're laughing. A JDM import version will most likely cost almost double to insure if you're young.

Imports are more expensive to insure and if you're under 25 it's generally quite hard to even get insured.

I have found that most Jap import stuff seems to be de-tuned in comparison to UK Spec. One example that I know of is the Turbo Supra. UK Spec has 4-pot brake calipers whereas Jap spec only has single pot calipers

load of shit bud..
its the other way about.. you will find that jdm models of honda's are always better than the uk spec models..
and when it comes to import cars, if you go with jap import specialist insurer, they insurance aint so bad.. im 19 with 2 years no claims and i have a jap import crx and i pay under a grand a year for it...
oh and btw thats with mods declared

me and my brother have had jap cars fora while now.
brothers had mx5,supra and now he is in an S2000
I've got a toyota Mr2 (in bits at present lol) and a Skyline R33 GTS-T.
insurance aint to bad if you join up to the owners clubs and go through an insurance company with them you usally get 15-25% discount JUST because your a member of an ownersclub. the thing insurance hate to hear is the word TURBO and been under 25 years of age.
parts are easy to find! its a case of pulling your finger out yah ass and doing the research to source the parts!
Modifications are easy to get aswell. as parts are cheap in the USA and in japan. its the shipping fee's you end up paying for.
with all jap cars you need to keep up on the servicing of the engines. even more so if they are boosted.
the + side to jap imports are alot are modified (some highly with stupid BHP). you would pay a fraction of the price for them. for example. my skylines had about 12-13k spent on it to date (everything purchased myself). where as you might be able to source a simler spec from an import dealer and it may cost you a fraction of the price to buy!
