View Full Version : Fuel Duty and VAT Reduction Petition

4th January 2010, 00:55
Has been posted in the Non-Saxo links section but seen as only a small group of people check there I thought it might get more attention being posted in this section.. Mods feel free to move etc if necessary :y:.

I’m starting a group to sign a petition on the Downing Street website to reduce the Fuel Duty and VAT on petrol and diesel as it is getting outrageous. A petition has already been started on the downing street website and i’m sure there will be a huge amount of interest for the petition to be put forward if we can spread the word.

Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref...4891212&ref=ts

Petition on Number 10 Downing Street: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/fueldutyrelief/

The downing street petition is the one that counts but the facebook is good to raise awareness. Any help would be greatly appreciated, so please sign up and send it on to your family and friends.

Regards,
Charlie

We'll see.. All the people thinking it won't happen.. Please sign anyway. No point hating something but then not doing something as simple as signing a petition to try and change things..

signed, but thinking if you had over 500,000 signatures on that petition - it would reach out to someone in the goverment

But they get fuel expenses, or should i say - USED to, the ones that commute a certain distance will actually be affected by the price.

What so just sit down and let them take us from behind? People don't like fighting things these days.. Everyone has such a pessimistic attitude i'm actually quite shocked.

Well organise some road block, saxp road block or sumthing. Somthings thats actually going to effect the nation, not some names on the internet. Id be more than happy to attend some road block/convoy.

Everything has to start somewhere.. I'd attend one to but it needs large numbers of people to happen something which as of yet we do not have.

We're in more debt as a country than we ever have been, we're recovering from a recession as a nation not just as individuals in society.

The fact they dropped VAT in the first place was to give us, and therefore businesses, a breather. Most companies are absorbing the inflation for a while anyway, but its unfair to continue to ask for the reduced 15% figure.

The tax on fuel is monstrous, but as with all tax it goes to good causes, running the country and supplying everything many take for granted. Yes many areas need improvement, and even the good areas make mistakes. But the mistakes are the publicised parts, the NHS for example is overall pretty fucking awesome. Its easy to complain about things they do wrong but at the end of the day you get free treatment whether youve got too pissed and got in a fight, or if you have a stroke. Most countries have nothing like that. And this isnt coming from someone whos had good history with the NHS, theyve made some seriously terrible cockups concerning people Im close to. However had we lived in other countries they would have died.

Money to run these things has to come from somewhere. Very few things work perfectly, and everything good comes at a cost. Just pay it and focus your time on making more money :)

Recent emissions based roadtax schemes and the proposed future of road tax and traffic law enforcement are a different matter though :boxing:

We are all going to have to pay more tax across the board for a few years to come or accept cuts to health, education, Police (I think there is room for manouvre there) etc. The money has to come from somewhere. The government expect to borrow £176bn this year and a bit more next year. No tax is going to be cut.

I think public sector pensions should be hammered myself.

Start complaining about people on the dole who have no intention of getting a job and sap taxes, or leave the country and go to anywhere else in europe where petrol is more expensive than here. We should start making bio diesel though, as abroad diesel is alot cheaper like .40 cheaper because of it.

I seriously doubt ALL tax money goes to good causes. We only see what were supposed to see, we only hear what were supposed to hear.

Even when scandels are made public, does it make much difference?..

I really dont get petitions about money.

Why do we have to sign somthing to say we want it cheaper?

Surely the goverment know poeple want things cheaper, who dosent want everything for as cheap as they can gt it? Why do they have to see names down for somthing everyone in the country would obviously want? Its like common sense, we'd have everything for free if we wanted.

I'm not saying abolish it as that is un-realistic and would never happen but if we can reduce it to the rates as some of the countries in the EU then we shall all be in a better position financially with cars :wall:
