Bonnet release catch?

Hi i got a dimma grill and have a bonnet release catch on it added to the original , but it keeps catching the fan? any ideas how stop this ( i've bent it out abit and couldn't open it, so i had to cut the mesh :( had to bend it back so back to square one).

the mesh catches the fan or the release catch?

Release catch does mate it's annoying lol, but want get it sorted.
