hey ppl, as i no nothing about saxos i was hoping youd shed sum light on this:

the clutch on my vtr is high so was gonna get it changed out/adjusted next week. recently has started making a bad whining/grumbling noise when im initially pulling away, or at low throttle, completely off its ok. every time u engage the clutch makes a bad rumbling/grinding noise, let clutch out its kool agen, gets worse as it warms up.

is it poss to change clutch bearings/slave cylinder, or just swap the entire lot? plates fly wheel etc..? any ideas on cost of clutch kit?

:y:

cheers

You could try to slacken the clutch cable a bit to lower the pedal. (try about 7-10mm on the adjuster as a rough starting point). Its under the battery tray and has 2 nuts on the end. I think 11mm and 13mm from memory.

The rumbling is very likely to be worn input shaft bearings in the gearbox. When you put foot on clutch pedal you diss engage engine from box hence it stops the noise.

If your clutch does not slip (revs rise but car does not speed up with them) then it should be fine for a while.

thanks, ill get mechanic to have a look at it when it goes in on monday, sounds expensive!?

when i put my foot on the clutch, disengaging the engine from box is when it sounds rough, rumbling etc. take my foot off clutch it stops noise. with pedal being so high aswell, why i reckond it was just the clutch gone?

ah well sounds like the joys of saxo ownership!
cheers for advice

a new box and clutch are cheap enough to come by these days.

cheers for the advice,

problems rumble on... now ive put some more miles on the car if i knock it in to neutral and freewheel it sounds bloody awful, think stevo is gonna be right with the gearbox bearings..

anyone know how much of job it is to change them? or how much money? cars gotta have cambelt done and was getting clutch done, so ive put down 200quid for a 9hours labour and got around 300quid left for parts..... any ideas if thatl cover it...?

cheers

I'm tempted to say the diff is on its way out. But sounds like the clutch release bearing (which gets changed when you do a clutch).
