View Full Version : Quit my job :D

for the passed 3 years i have worked in a night club.
the club has a 500 max capacity.. and on an average night there are 4 glass collectors.

on new years eve, the manager only had 2 glass collectors in (me and another lad) anyways, half way through the night, the manager had taken to other glass collector and put him on bar to help out, leaving me to do the job of 4 people on my own on new years eve (Probably the busiest night of the year) and then started bitching at me about things not getting done, and saying i was slacking and stuff.. long story short i told her where to stick it and walked out 20 mins before closing

i went back the following night to get my wages, and the manager came up with a load of bs about me, saying how i was slacking all the time and crap (which is far from the truth)
and for this i had 20 quid deducted from my wages... what a c*nt lol

as i see it, i was forced out of my job by a useless manager..
Rant over.

Any one else rescently left a long term job?

iirc She can't deduct £20 from your wages, take her to a tribunal, fair enough its only £20 but its the principle!

Dano
5th January 2010, 03:36
the job paid 30 quid a night (9:30pm - 2:30am)
friday and saturday

NYE was double pay night, and i had to collect wages from a night the weekend before (So should be £90) but she gave me 70.

She peed me off enough to not want to go and argue over £20
its not the money that bothers me tho.
its the fact i put 3 years in to that place, and it all just ended on a bad note.

ah well 2010 starts here - new job sounds like a plan :y:

Its illegal to deduct from wages

If my boss did that, id more than likely walk out busting some shit up that costs more than £40+ a pop, or go for something really expensive

she can deduct your wages because you left 20mins early well thats what she would argue.

Pieface
5th January 2010, 09:35
And you can easily sue her for taking your wages off you, it's against the law.

And £5 an hour? Christ that's low.

thats exactly why businesses close down, you get idiot managers running the place who dont appreciate good help and get rid of them. next they hire 'true' idiots that actually dont work and it goes tits up from there.

Goto love the license industry.

First off, the manager on New years eve was breaking the law. Health and safety issue.

For every 100 people that a night club cators for, it has to have by law 2 members of staff on the floor. This is due to Health and Safety, if I was you I would get yourself down to see a solicitor. As unless you have a contract that states you will be deducted, the manager is breaking the law and is effectiverly theft.

Congratulations on leaving your shitty boss? It sounds like a good job though, good tips.

Don't know why they would let the bar be understaffed on one of the busiest nights of the year, but I know she shouldn't be deducting from your wages!

Even if you break something at work?

IE. I broke the chopsaw at work and sent it away to get fixed. He had to pay £90 and i agreed to pay him back cash. If i dont pay by the end of the week, he'll deduct it from my wages... Can this happen?

Btw.... He totally forgot, wages were normal on pay day and never said a thing. 4 months on, i'm still to scared to go near the chopsaw incase it reminds him.

If its wear and tear then yes that is illeagal, if you done it on purpose or by mis-use then it is legal :y:

My expect advice is: Stay away from the chopsaw ;)

I was close to quitting my job today......this pr*ck walked in out of nowhere just before Christmas and suddenly is my new boss, starts changing my hours around, telling me I need to work more etc...I spat it right back in his face telling him I'M ON A PART TIME CONTRACT, I WON'T DO ANY MORE HOURS! That won't keep him quiet for long though.
Who do these people think they are?

marcusd
5th January 2010, 21:19
if its broke at work and u didn;t smash it. work should replace it themselves. our chop saw used to brake all the time and boss tried that one. but its down to boss/employer to maintain tools.

As said above. They can't just take deductions from your wages. Raise a formal grievance against her, the last thing she'll want is to go to court and she'd probably end up giving you more than the £20 she owes you to settle it! lol

TOTALLY AGREE.

as soon as she notices a note popping through the door from the local majistrates she will shit herself and most probs be on the phone to you straight away asking you to come back to work LOLS!

was you under contract? was the wages TAX exempt?

if not then you can get done and so can she for Tax avashion HAHAHA! but saying that you have to earn so much a year to have to pay tax anyways!

unfortunatley night club bar staff and glass collectors dont get a huge amount of money anyhow.
id suspect that you wasnt on a contract, more along the lines of giving a weeks notice of what nights you were available for the following weekend so they could cater for staffing - classed as loose staff.

in ref to the person stating you should have 2 floor staff for every 100 punters, yes this is true but they dont need to count glass collectors as floor staff, that criteria is more for doorman/security to ensure a steady running throught the night.
as a glass collector you wouldnt be expected to step in if a dispute happened between 2 drunken punters.

one thing tho, as i do fully agree that the manager was in the wrong to expect you to cover the roles of 4 people, and even more so in the wrong for deducting your wages after this.
she would have no valid arguement to say it was deducted due to you not pulling your weight when she was 3 staff down, and to argue that you left 20 minutes before your time would mean she would have to establish your hourly rate and take away the appropriate amount to equate to 40 minutes, doing otherwise is clearly theft!
she will need to supply a suitable breakdown to show how she came to the equasion of a £20 deduction.

thats unlucky mate. i had a good job on a building sit a couple of years ago bringing in around 400 quid a week got on withe every1 there and loved the job until a new manager came in who took an instant dislike to me an just made it so i didnt want to go in in the mornings we got into a heated argument and he went for me at this point i should of just let him hit me then sued him for loads but being pissed off at the time i dropped him needless to say i lost the job. i then had to put up with shit pay for a year untill found the company i work for now who are putting me though training and by next year i should be on 50k+.

so to cut a long story short you will eventually find summat you enjoy that pays alot better than glass collecting in a shitty bar with a prick for a boss

good luck in the future
