I got to work ion the snow yesterday. I did have to walk half of my journey though because traffic just wasn't moving!

Had to take today off though because my sons school is closed for a 2nd day. Makes me sick how teachers are unable to get in yet us parents are quite capable of getting our kids to school!

What makes it worse is when they let your kids go to school then a hour and a half later both parents are at work and they ring you expecting you to be able to get back because they decided to close the place..

Ha, I wish I'd stayed off now. We left at about 6:45 and we were the only tracks in the snow on our street. Half of our neighbours are school teachers though and everyone knows they can't drive in the snow :P

I was coming up the main road by us and a 4x4 came up behind me. Slowed down and left a fair gap to be fair to him.... Stopped, and it took him an age to get going again! Fucking lol. I felt do bad looking back and seeing him sitting there.

realistically there is only one main road out of Aylesbury to work. Its really steep up to Tring and its not worth trying as although I can drive my car in snow, hundreds of others block the road. I can do some work from home but I think I will be making a snowman later :D

Got probably 6 or 7 inches here. Not bothered going to work today, working form home instead (thats why I'm on Sax-P lol). Went in yesterday and made the 26 mile trip easy enough, just the traffic was at standstill for most of the way due to noobs who blatently can't drive in the snow and who should probably have stayed at home!!!

Supposed to be on site tommorrow in the middle of no-where. Not looking forward to trying to get there!

its crazy how britain gets a few inches of snow and everything is at a stand still. other countries get feet of snow and function as normal

the other countries who perform fine with snow will be the countries who are used ot getting it, and will have millions put into equipment to cope with it.

England doesn't get enough snow like this to warrant spending that much on dealing with it, as it wont get used enough

Yep, and they won't do anything about it because it doesn't happen enough, it snows one or two days a year down here, (this year has been different though, it's snowed a lot), anyway, they won't pay for the gritting trucks, and the staff to drive them etc, so it's not worth it.. or so they say, but, although I don't know figures, surely the combined standstill of the country hits the economy harder than the initial cost and running of gritting trucks for example.

I agree there used to it but its more to do with there drivers are general trained how to cope with snow and ice. I don't think its much to do with equipment as many countries don't even use salt. Many countries have many of there roads that are not even visible in winter. In Poland for example they stick big posts next to the road so they stick out the snow and you know where your going. In Sweden they don't tend to grit and most people don't even used studs but just a normal winter tyre. In the North of Finland it actually came alive in the winter compared to the summer but every one there are trained how to drive on the snow as soon as they learn to drive.

I think thats where this country falls down. If people were taught how to drive in these conditions it would help greatly. Even if it was only like a 1 hour course covering the basics it would improve traffic flow in poor weatehr coinditions.

Basic things like give way to cars coming up hills so they don't have to stop for you (the car coming down) when they will have no chance of getting going again, driving at an appropriate speed for the road (not too fast, but also nopt to slow so that some momentum is maintained). Stuff like that.

hole hearted agree.. sadly they don't even teach people how to drive on motorways properly in this country so there's fock all likelihood they'd ever get people learning about snow.

Viper
6th January 2010, 16:24
axRacing,t hats another thing, practically no one has the right tyres for this weather, i know i definitely don't! Low profiles don't go well with snow, so I drive much slower and take corners with extreme caution, which most people dont seem to be able to do

When their wheels spin, they just accelerate even more, it's stupid. People who keep going forwards on a bend and say 'well I was going slow' clearly weren't going fucking slow enough!
