I dropped my pretty much brand new phone in the sink this morning whilst having a shave....

I'm not totally sure if i have insurance on the handset

What are my options?

I'm with Orange...

Hope they feel nice today!

you dont have face hair..... you too young :)
only kidding

give it tine to dry out. warentee does not cover water damage.
claim of your home insurance. that should cover accidental loss if you dont have phone insurance.
give orange a call and see what they will do.

Blag it, say it was in your pocket when you were out walking the dog or something, and the frost/freezing temperature must have got to it and it seems to have stopped working. Dry it out first though :)

chances are if its not insured you'll most likely have to buy a new phone.

Same thing happened to my mate but he was insured. They never replaced his phone because his mrs took the contract out in her name and then gave it to him as a gift so they refused to pay out for a new phone.

best bet would be to do what "Domleydon" mentioned and see what happens

If it isn't insured..

Insure it
Buy a temp phone for a month or two
After some time..
Blag you were out walking the dog, kneeled down to tie your shoelace or whatever, and it fell out of your pocket into a puddle.
Claim!

Insurance fraud ftw

If its a contract then im not sure if you can take out insurance after taking on the contract ? as they normally ask you when signing the contract if you want insurance and if its a pay and go then it only comes with a manufacturers warrenty and doesn't cover accidental damage

they know if its got water damage if its dry.
also a hair dryer will fry the components inside.

not all the time, if you take the back off and can see a white stain (thats how the water will dry on a pcb) clean it off with flux cleaner and put back together.

a hair dryer will not fry the components not unless you leave it in one place for a while.

i work in electronics and see plenty of plasma/lcd tvs that come in for repair with water damage people alway try to blag it!

LOL people spill drinks over them, or people that have burst pipes

Put it in a sealable bag full of rice and then put it in the airing cupboard or boiler room for about a day trust me it works :)

My problem is, phones these days have 'moisture strips' inside... mine has turned bright pink.
They start off white.

I'm drying it out now, but a weird mark has appeared on the touch screen.

Can't really afford to just give up on the handset as its £250+

BAAAAD TIMES

stick it in the airing cupboard and leave it for a few days

I think this may be the answer.
dry it, and see what happens...

I dropped my phone in water by accident, I immediately took the battery, sim card and memory card out and put a hair dryer to it all over and put it on a radiator for an hour or so and checked to see if it works and it does just like before.

is there no way of replacing the strip?

as they will look and say warranty void.

I tried to peel it off...

But then realised... no strip will appear just as suspicious (sp) as a red one...

Is it a contract phone? Have Orange Care contacted you about cover, they did so with me, they blagged cover to me for an extra 6 quid a month, i read the terms and conditions and it covered me against certain circumstances of water damage but not all, it was an anal description i won't go in to detail. Anywho as it happend i left my phone on the side when i had a shower and I think the steam fucked the phone up, but yeah when i phoned up they said "sorry orange care doesn't cover that". Cunts. They text me saying they had changed the terms and conditions of orange care, i phoned up saying i didn't agree to these changes blah blah How dissapointed i was with my expierence with orange and orange care... boom iPhone on its way
