today went from notts to wolverhampton to look at a 206 gti 180, looked nice car few dings around nothing dent master cant sort. guy took me out in it for over 20mins everything was fine.
i drove back from wolves to notts totally fine... took a trip into town and gears started to get hard to engage... eventually car got stuck in 3rd and stick just went all floppy cant choose any gears now.
so stuck in 3rd cant roll the car... searched around could be a simple linkage come off but i cant see where to look underneath or anything. are there any mobile mechaincs on here from notts area that can come out and sort it for me???

its a nice car, just want it running again so can get used to the different view etc. had a saxo for like 4 years so its a bit different!
the guy seemed pretty genuine so hopefully its not really major.

sounds like linkages my mate had a 206 180 gti and his popped off in third

it was the linkage, its now back on although its still sloppy and needs further attention.
the guy that sold me did a good job of looking like he was a good owner etc and looks like he wasnt all that truthful about everything.
hope to make some progress by next week.
anybody know a goodpaintless dentl removal company?

Linkage's on the 206 were plastic from standard iirc and quite common for them to pop off or the rubber wear away (ive done a few and they all were), like said above similar to the saxo, cost about £15 each from 'Peugot' and the replacement one's should be a modified metal type.

Nice mate i remember the picture, Good choice. Probably not the right time to ask about how it drives ... But, How does it drive lol... Hope it works out ok for you.. And i dont think it looks like a nail at all.. looks well tidy pal.
Let me know how she drives mate, and if you manage to mend the gear linkages.
If the bloke seemed genuine then it probably a coincidence that they went pop.
Take some more pics mate.. of the interior too :D Does it feel quick then ?

you are correct mostly, but i think the 180 gti has a hydraulic component also. the linkages are being looked over again tomorrow. hopefully by replacing them with new ones there should be, 1) less play in the gears 2) no longer issues with engaging gears 1 and 2. if this is not the case then ill have to wait and see what the verdict is.
as for how it drives etc... power is a marginal improvement over the vts, so is comfort and equipment. the car is lowered 50mm with uprated shocks and has a good mix of rawness yet refinedness at the same time. so compared to the vts you dont feel as much a part of the car but not enough to make it unenjoyable.
only issue ive got is still getting used to the lower amount of visibility due to the distance from the dash to the front window and over the shoulder blindspots seeming huge compared to the saxo.
obviously the dash to window distance is all safety based and the blind spot thing just means gotta be a bit cautious until im used to it.
but if your still thinking of getting one i would of thought you would be happy enough changing from a saxo to this model gti... i wouldnt have any other model though.
bit of a review there... hopefully i can start a thread, not that its a saxo so no1 will be tooo bothered haha

isnt that the clutch? may be wrong but sure that was the only hydraulic part on mine.

hopefully the problem is just worn linkages, the car was MOT'D 5000miles ago with no advisories. i would have thort excessive clutch play would be noted in the mot. im not a pro though, just a VICTIM lol FML

Depends on the station, would only be an advisory so depends on the tester really, ive only ever seen clutch as an advisary when its slipping.

Thanks mate, I think you got a mint car anyway.... if i got one i imagine if i spent a few quid on it, Yours is how i would want it to look. Smart, not OTT and tidy.
I hear these cars respond to breathing mods well so pop and induction on ( if it hasnt already ) and see how it goes.... and post a couple more pics up mate :) i think it was a good buy for the price..
I suppose the big question is... is it better than you were expecting or not as good... ?

i need to put a panel filter in i think, this is what ive been recommended to do. as the OEM system is supposedly good already.
found the problem of linkage bracket was broken so a new one of those is being put on and see if things get better from there.

the OEM system is ok, but if you are wanting something that realy workes head across to performance206 and check out the GSR kit

GSR quite expensive it would be a while before i could afford something like that!
the 180 above is basically a blue version of how mine will be, just different headlights and induction for a while.

So he gained 20bhp from a panel filter and full system thats canny.

What was the 'before' figure?
Was the before/after test done on the same day at the same rolling road?
What were the 'at the wheels' figures?
Flywheel is for willy waving & can be changed by the rolling road operator depending on which side of bed he got out of in the morning .... If you dont have answers to all of the above, your post is completely pointless and proves nothing :y:

i think with funds atm due to the gear situation it will defo be a while before anything can happen to the induction side of things, it will likely be just a green cotton panel filter to start with see how that goes when/if i get round to it.
i would of thought a re-map would also be needed to get anywhere near that 187bhp figure.

i put a green cotton on my VTR definately breathed better and top end on the motor way i felt it was a bit more willing to pull :)
