Just take a look at the list of total bangers that were removed from the American roads between 1st July 2009 and 24th Aug 2009.

http://www.cars.gov/files/official-information/trade-in-vehicles.pdf

To quote a few:

1x DB7 Volante
2x 1985 Audi Quattros!!
1x 2006 Audi A4 Cab Quattro
3x B5 Audi S4's
6x E38 740i Sports
10x BMW X5's
5x Range Rovers (current shape!)
9x Jaguar XJR's
6x Lexus IS300's
1x 2005 RX8
12x W220 Mercedes S Class
4x Volvo XC90's

And what do they do to make sure nobody can use them again... replace the oil with sodium silicate and run them until destruction. See an example here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waj2KrKYTZo). :fcuk:

All so they could have some discount on their new, low emission vehicles... yays. So I guess it doesn't matter about polluting the atmosphere even more when making these new cars to order.

To be fair, I don't think our scrappage scheme is much better - but I guess the cars for ours need to be 10+ years old I think?

But the American equivalent... what was the person with the 2006 Audi A4 Cab thinking? Equally so the 4x Volvo XC90 owners - considering they were released in 2002, hardly old bangers!

The whole thing stinks - the concept of it is totally backwards as I rekon they'll be polluting more CO2 to make the new cars.

you know that sad/depressing feeling you get when you see something awfull happen? For example hearing millions of people were killed etc

This gives me that feeling :( Why the fuck would they destroy cars like that? Cars that could be used easily for 2 more decades! Its the V8 guzzling fuckers that are everywere that they need to destroy! C**ts IMO That video is like watching someone being slowly torched to death :(

DB7 Volante :'(.

They do however, unlike us, have protection for classic cars. So we're probably fatter, stupider, retards Mieran :p.

I agree and the way they're destroying these cars is hardly environmentally friendly:wacko:

volvo is crying

Sodium silicate solution is used to inexpensively, quickly, and permanently disable automobile engines. Running an engine with two quarts of a sodium silicate solution instead of motor oil causes the solution to precipitate, catastrophically damaging the engine's bearings and pistons within a few minutes.[4] In the United States this procedure is required by the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) program.[4][5]

Yeah, was something like he could drive his chevy truck for the rest of his life and produce less emissions than what's required to make a brand new car.

i do see why we get fined for poluting the atmosphere, its not like we can do anything about it! and scrapage scheme for old cars giving bad emitions makes no sence, you get free roadtax on old cars! and road tax is there for the emitions you make and to maintain the roads...

They've just put 5 minutes worth of full throttle CO2 into the atmosphere!!!!

Fucking american clowns.

Fire, man, fire.

Yeah, that's the fucker getting it's own back.

Wonder whether they've got the same rules over there, in that once they've been traded in, you can't buy it... If not, buy it dirt cheap, new engine, job's a good un.

Obviously wouldn't be too easy with getting hold of stuff stuff for the Aston etc, but the other stuff could end up being pretty cheap...

And lol @ watching that video with the myths... That's the window roller... upper, downer... They're all busted...
