bought a new car recently a 59 plate fiesta zetec s 1.6 petrol Ti-VCT or somet cant ever remember the abrev., picked it up today without test driving it beforehand and wow.... the difference between that and the saxo is shocking. obviously cant slate the saxo as im on saxperience, but the ride compared to this was shit, these new fords are pretty amazing cars tbh, still pretty nippy although you dont notice your going as fast as you are until you look at the speedo, found myself unintentionally speeding a few times today; obviously the saxo was alot faster but you cant compare the saxo to this.

got it in frozen white btw; looks like this;

there should be a law for every mk7 ZS to have the street pack!

They're pretty much the same performance as a VTR. Handling wise, OK, you cant throw it about as much as the saxo, but it feels a hell of a lot more solid!

Good choice of car, looks ace :)

not a chance :p well, untill i can get insured on a tvr for decent money :A:

looks nice, dont think i'd ever buy a brand new car though cause as soon as you've driven it off the forecourt its depreciated the value of the vat :n:

13th January 2010, 01:31
cost 14k, seen it as soon as i walked in and knew i wanted it lol, exhaust sounds pretty nice aswell over 4000 rpm, nice and quiet but has like a "burble" if you get me, makes a change from noisey saxo, and no rattles! only thing i wish i had got as an extra was the usb port, but i've got the aux port i suppose, got the automatic lights n wipers instead.

do you have the street pack? have you taken the "ESP" off yet? he told me not too but im tempted to do it now, im sure you doin need to be "a trained" driver like the dealer said.

have to admit i was same, i did intend on going to buy some crappy standard model new car for around 7-8k but i thought if im goin to be spending alot of money of a car i want somet im guna love... and still be abit "fast"

only bought a new car because was sick of problems with saxo, spent over what i paid for it in repairs.... and fuel economy was wank... and just got talked into buying a new car.

In all honesty, i'm a bit jealous. I really want one of these. They look the absolute tits. Slam it and put some black wheels on :y: Good choice of car imo.

i always thought they were a bit funny looking, but like you say, probably cheaper to run and nicer to drive than the 's, and you're gonna feel safer!

of course its not as quick and might not handle as well but in a few years time you can sell it on, of course for alot less than you paid, but alot more than you'd get for the saxo!

Aye ive got street pack, and the USB as well. its awesome.

LOL at the dealer!

turning it off will stop the traction control from cutting the revs if you're setting off from the traffic light GP.

need it off on track as well :y:

See this is something I don't understand.

14k on a Fiesta? I know the huge factor is insurance, but for that money, it doesn't matter.

10k would get you an 05 BMW 330CI, you have performance then, and it will be a lot more refined, or a 330D if you want a diesel for economy.

I know what my choice would be, as I just spent £4500 on a 51 330ci.

£14k on a Fiesta? Please tell me that includes the interest you're paying on the finance?

Ride quality will be a fair bit better than a slammed Saxo, that's a given

Did the dealer tell you that you need to be a trained driver to turn the TC off? I'm not totally convinced that it really needs TC however you sure as hell don't need to be Ari Vatanen to tswitch it off. It's a front drive hatch so traction control will pretty much only cut power if you're understeering a lot, the back end's not going to chuck the backend out and start power sliding everywhere

AlexR
13th January 2010, 10:52
Doubt it rides better than a standard saxo, maybe a lowered one but what do you expect? Most modern cars ride quite firmly as they are well sprung to support the extra weight ;)

Can't say i'm a massive fan of the new fiesta either. The fastest model will be quite nice, read about an ST a while back? Zetec S is just a bit slow and underpowered for my liking. At least you got white i guess!

well maybe, just maybe, he didnt want a BMW? and i reckon chances are he wanted a NEW car...

an 05 BMW won't come with a 3 year warranty either

Does this happen on every forum? people bitching at how much someone has spent on a brand new car and that they would have got something else for less. i know people were saying it when i got mine!

Jorge-
13th January 2010, 11:56
I didn't mean a BMW, I just used that as an example as I have been looking at them recently!

It just seems beyond me why people buy new cars, when you lose such a huge chunk the moment you drive it. Even buy a car that is an 08 plate then. Nearly new, you can get dealer warranties if that is what is your biggest issue, or higher spec too. A warranty doesn't mean much, specially as they don't usually cover anything useful half the time! And are usually voided if you decide to do any sort of modification to the car.

Not arguing or bitching. Just wondered why he was saying about taking a drop in performance for a newer car. I would never buy a Saxo again now, even if I bought a new or used car, the build quality is appualing in comparison.

Maybe that is just my train of though however...

Edit, I should say for a young driver it seems beyond me..

you will only lose money if you intend to sell it...

and by the time you sell it, it may well have been worth it with how good the car has been.

oh, and LOL at when people were moaning at me about depreciation when i got mine... probably wouldnt even lose a grand if i sold it now ;)

it was about 11500 odd. paid in late february, got the car on March 1st

lol I had people telling me how much I was going to lose for buying the volvo brand new.
also, you could have had x car for x amount less.

point is I wanted a new car
plus I got a ford voucher which took off quite a bit of money meaning if I did come to sell it in three years, I probably wouldnt lose much at all.

on the fiesta, very nice car mate :y:
ignore all the jeolous ones lol

Maybe he didn't have ten grand to blow on a rep-mobile. Ever think of that? Most probably put a deposit down and paying finance, like i would if i had the cash.

Unless he went to the dealership with 14 grand in his back pocket and bought the car outright?? ;)

tuft
13th January 2010, 12:46
also Im pretty sure an 05 BMW would cost a hell of a lot more to insure than a new fiesta

MrAdaam
13th January 2010, 12:49
Very, very nice car. Much better than a Saxo would ever be. A bit pricey but it's going to last you quite some time i'd imagine so worth it.

Jorge-
13th January 2010, 12:52
As said, used BMWs as an example, but with the cash saved you could easily afford insurance ;)

either way, that is how I would do it. Can still get finance if bought from a dealer.

Not saying I wouldn't buy a new car, I just wouldn't buy one yet... long term paying off. Get bored to easily to keep a car for a length of time.

I should hope Fords 2009 effort is slightly better than a car that came out a decade a go.

£14k on a Fiesta, not for me. I could think of 100 cars that I'd buy before that.

I'm glad you're happy with it though. Enjoy.

great looking car especially in white. a girl i know just got one exactly the same, i love it!
im sacrificing some speed for comfort and economy and buying a corsa c for a daily runner, nearly went for another saxo but decided against it

LeeM
13th January 2010, 20:42
although i must admit, i looked at the corsa d's, but stood in the showroom it did cross my mind as to exactly what £13k would get me in the used prestige market, so i left

13th January 2010, 20:48
Good cars, but more of a promise of things to come from a 'possible' hot version. The fact people are comparing it performance wise to a VTR which is a car you can get for £750 in good nick now sums it up for me. Theyre good cars but certainly not something worth spending £13k on in my opinion.

Glad the people who have them are happy with em though :)

I think Side Skirts and front heated windows are the standard now.
I was told the trim might also be different in 09 versions

For £14k, off the top of my head TT, S2K, 3-series, 5-series. It would depend what I needed from the car.

yup skirts and street pack "body kit" are standard now, so the street pack is "privacy glass", 17inch wheels and esp i think, he mite of mentioned somet else. but i didnt order it, got the one in the show room that already had most stuff on it.

what MPG are u getting out of your mk7? mines at around 29.5mpg on trip computer but its only done 160miles so it should go up shouldn't it?

also i wanted a brand new car, 0 miles, i had the money, liked the car so bought it, wasnt bothered about the money, didnt want a second hand bmw or owt, just something reliable, thats not going to rape me when it comes time to tax, insure, replace parts etc. oh about the vtr costing £750 and having the same performance thats why you wouldnt spend 14k on one... you cant compare (fair enough if your buying something just for speed and performance though), thats like saying you would get a shit box corsa b redtop conversion instead of a civic type r....

i tend to get 35mpg out of a varied run. which is usually town driving, then a motorway drive from Newcastle to York, and then more town driving.

i ran the car in for well over a thousand miles too. never went above 3k revs.

mardon
15th January 2010, 16:39
Nicely done mate.

I've got a brand new car coming first week of feb. What people have to remember if people like us didn't buy brand new cars (specifically hot hatch's which few companies will provide as a company car) no one will have any to buy a few years down the line in the second hand market.

Now I have the money I want a new car the spec I want which I know hasn't got a hidden past. The fact I’ve saved 2k off the list price which is very very rare for my car will also mean I’m not taking such a huge hit when its time to sell up.

Are car's still supposed to be run in these days?

When I picked my new car up, as soon as my engine was warm (car had done a total of 40 miles at the point), I unleashed some vtec upon it. It was fine with it and still no problems. Get's a nice MPG too.

Same with me on the Twingo. Just wait till the engine is warmed up and they're fine.

11200 miles later and it still runs like a dream and exceeds claimed power on a roller.
