I'm in need of some advice, i'l give you the full story...

In june last year i finished my sixth year at school, as cars are my main motivation, i applied for, what i thought to be, a car orientated course (A HND in mechanical engineering). Iv'e been in the course since august. Within the first fortnight i knew it was not what i'd wanted to do, though i thought i'd stick with it. Now its come to exam time and i feel i am struggling with a few subjects (Statics & Strength of Materials, Dynamics and Thermofluids, specifically). I know my results are not going to be pretty and i want a full time job. I really want to do aeronautical engineering and would love to work on helicopters. I've applied at many places, though no one is taking on apprentace's in the current financial climate. When i tested the water with my mum, she wasn't very happy. Basically, if i leave college, i have to move out, also (the cars in her name, which would be sold) Please no comments about being a cock as otherwise i cant afford inurance, everyone needs to get through the first year. I thought this was a bit of an over - reaction, but she's deadly serious. I tried to explain, it would only be sensible to finish the term, then decide what i really want. Currently im thinking of joining the RAF as i've heard that they will put me through everything i'd need to know and guarantee me a job at the end of it (although im aware i would have to do so many years service). Im just after some constructive advice, comments and ideas. All welcomed.

im now back at college doing motorsport engineering and loving it...

i very much doubt your parents would kick you out, if they did that proper harsh, but the coucil/social services shoudl help you out. could you not live with gf/grandparents?

if youve come this far itd be stupid to stop now, finish it then decide then atleast you havent wasted your time and least youve got something to fall back on, speak from experience here, ive only just got into decnt work now after 5 or so years of shite, thats what happens with no qualifications these days, ive got no one to blame but myself and at least im sorted now but best advice i can give is stick in mate...
and tbh it souds like youd be rather screwed if you left anyway mate

My parent's are split up, we currently live in Aberdeenshire, my family live in Glasgow, though its possible. My dad fully supports what ever i want to do, though i cant stay with him, and its not him i have to win over. How is the motorsport engineering course?

Cheers for the advice, i just can't keep up with the work! if i left at the end of this term, i would leave with a HNC. Which i feel is something to add to my CV and it's better than a wasted year (assuming i pass the exams).

well alot of the 2nd year lads (after 2/3 years seem to be employed).

apprently alot of race teams ask the tutors for the best students, and just take them.
