The misses is pregnant, so the astra twintop has to go. The saxo went a couple of months ago, but i want to know what you guys ( and girls ) think i should choose between these 2 ???? Ex police volvo's are kickin out about 300 bhp and i'm sure the impreza estate wrx is about 250 bhp.

What do you think ?????????????

Well obviously the Volvo would've been serviced regulary etc etc but the rex would be more fun.

You have a 'little you' on the way, so why not opt for the safer car. And the more sensible of the two, the Volvo.

Yeah, although I wanna say Imprezza, you sold the Saxo and gonna sell the Astra because she's pregnant/child on the way to get a safer car, makes sense to get the more sensible and safe car now.

Both used for Traffic i presume??

If so id go for the Volvo.

Subaru engines are shockingly weak if theyre not left to warm up properly, so if its been used for traffic and almost certainly had alot of cold start thrashings to jobs then id expect the engine to be unreliable.

Local force blew up 2 engines before they even got to their first service- Prodrive fitted an engine to it afterwards which had of course been built to take it.

Volvo's on the other hand prove to be brilliant :y:

Why the fuck would you need 300bhp for a family car??

Impreza WRX- 4WD counts for more at high BHP, try launching a 300bhp T5 off the lights without traction control. You'll be waiting for weeks for the burning rubber smell to come out the cabin. Also the Subaru sounds better, almost 200 kilos lighter, handles better and more aftermarket tuning options available.

Unless you need the extra space and toys, Subaru all day long.

my dad had a volvo v70 ex police, and i must say it was a brilliant car. never had any problems with it and pulled like a train!

Exactly.

Po-po need them to catch bad mans, but for a family they are pointless.

Get a nippy diesel.

People always say that they are maintained well, but i have heard some shocking stories over the years about people who have bought them. Also there is no doubt about the fact that they get ragged almost daily.

What makes you think the volvo wont have been serviced? Being a police vehicle it would have been regularly serviced. I'm almost certain all police vehicles have to be serviced as often as company cars. So i'd go for the volvo tbh!

As said if your wanting a family car, id much rather have a 5 star crash rating on it over performance

go for a laguna

or if you really have to go for one of them it would be the volvo everytime

unless it's a 3 door?

Why the fuck would you need 300bhp for a family car??

Cause maybe hes not a boring bastard that thinks i have a family now so i need to get a boring car! maybe....... admitingly you dont need 300bhp id try lookin into a nice audi maybe a 1.9tdi estate quite alot of room safe good mpg just as fast if not faster than the volvo, and if you want abit more performance you could get a 2.5tdi which do 35/40mpg at 100mph ;)

and a stage 1 remap on the 1.9 takes it from 170 to 220bhp iirc

Volvo all the way
Police have to maintain high service standards so despite the fact it will have been thrashed a bit it will have been well looked after

I'd get a Volvo but an S60 tbh but Police cars average a new panel every few weeks apparantly so bodywork wise it should be fairly mint - servicing on police vehicles are very often more so than company vehicles

And who told you that? A VAG 1.9TDi or 2.5TDi would be destroyed by a 300bhp T5, re-mapped or not.

Family car and 'fun' car should be two separate things. Nothing boring about valuing your childs life.

Maybe He's going to drop the kids off at School but also have some fun when He's by Himself and doesn't have the space for two Cars.. Ever thought of that?

LOL @ cal.

but seriously

when you have kid's they become your priority, not your passion for car's

get something safe & reliable, and economical (youll need to save cash if having a kid lol)

the volvo may be well looked after and mint but if u got it ull always be thinking... its a volvo i wish i got the scooby and if u got the scooby ud the thinking the volvo had better bhp. my answer is simple which has higher bhp/tonne and which is funner to drive. If u still cant answer that get a nice tip of mr jezza and his friends from top gear theyre land u with some BMW or MERC with a v12 engine that supplies like 10mpg :) happy huntuing

P.S id personally get the volvo due to better servicing, speed etc but i still think ur mad for wanting that power as a family car. least ur kid can accompany u on track days :y:

or if u dont wanna be spending ur cash on insurance and a tank of petrol to get to the shops get sopmething like a 1,6 astra sxi or a astra diesiel (not a van). very good cars :)
