What are your views on these? Anyone had experience with them? Due to im going Uni soon I need a diesel car with a bit of power (Not the Saxo Diesel, would be faster to walk the 100miles)..
I have seen one with 80k on the clock, £2.4k.. Is that good for a 1.9TDI? Are they reliable?
I know its not going to be as fun as driving a Saxo but I will need something more sensible for a few years

I can't afford the insurance on a VTR if its going to be doing less than 2000 miles year though :(
& Only the 90BHP model, just to be a cheap run around

lol lazyness :P
the most ive walked in manc is 45 mins down to a mates flat. wasnt that bad a walk
if your in a city youd spend more time sitting in traffic than moving
remember, you get student discounts on nearly everything including bus passes.
car running costs are full price ;)

Bus prices are full whack here. And it takes 10 minutes to cross the city, not really an issue.

if your going to nottingham then theres no need for a car really, you dont have to really walk anywhere
extra cost for everything - petrol, tax, insurance, perishable parts (tyres, discs, pads, servicing etc) & parking)
walkings free & healthy

Boring but safe. Watch out for leaks coming into the car from the rear washer jet and the boot handles tend to rust up easily

I agree with Ashleyp on this one to an extent, i can see what he means you save money walking and leaving your car at home uninsured and sorn but you can only do this if it is off the road! on a drive for example! iirc
But then again havin a car is handy cause say you had a couple of days off and wanted to go to the beach or somethin with the wife a car would be nice to have but then again paying all that money for a car to stay on the road for a couple of trips a month is abit unethical IMO!

90bhp one is crap, get at least the 115 or 130. The pd engined ones are the ones you need to look for.

did trains die? lol
at uni there's no need to have a car really
the only want for one at uni is greed. you live close enough to everything you need, ive visited a fair few uni's and none really have the need for a car, unless you commute to it from your own house etc
if your happy to live with no money for nights out then getting a car may be a good idea. but you'll never need to drive anywhere
if i want to go home, i walk 10mins to picadilly, get on the train which costs less than my petrol and sit on it for 1.5 hours all the way back home :)
even at nottingham you'd rarely need to use the bus, most uni type places are walking distance

The PD engines are wank and are just a load of left over parts thrown together

What makes you say that? All 150pd engines I've driven have been great

theres a taxi driver in london who's pd engine'd passat has covered 300k, pretty sure theres a reason its lasted that well
theres plenty of them around with high miles and they go forever
my caddy tdi is on 185k and runs like a dream

Somehow it is, my landrover's insurance is £587, VTR is 1000+, and the Freelander is in the same insurance group as a VTS iirc?

Because chavs crash saxos all the time, and as they are made of paper they are often written off.

mk4 golfs most common faults ive came across(worked in audi/vw dealer for 6years)are rear bumpstops they love too perish.boost hoses love to blow off leak oil.rear washer pipes always come off take boot trim off small jubilee clip wont come off again lol.rear boot handles stick.air mass meterslike to go and make sure had cambelt and water pump done:y:
