well seen as you are goin to see them both tomorrow ask to have a test drive and see for yourself. I personally havent driven them, but if i had to choose based on looks i would have to go for the C2, thing to check with the ZR is if it has had the head gasket replaced yet,if not be prepared for it to go at any moment lol

I forgot to mention the VTR is a 1.6 16v its also not just about speed etc but performance, reliability, looks and comfort aswell.

i wood take the mg, if it a mk2 then even better, i want a 1.8 mg zr, dont like the c2's rather have a saxo and about the headgasket, yes it is a weakness, but if it has been treated right there no reason why it should go and if you're worried just get the uprated one

Yeah ive seen a few people say the same about the head gasket going on the mg zr on other forums maybe a c2 could be a better buy as ive also heard mg's are bad for rust

Ive got an mg zr 1.8 160bhp model, lovley car tbh but only the 160. The 1.4's are lacking in go and dont feel as tight as the 160. cnt comment on c2 mate as i havent driven one.

I had my eye on a MK2 in mint condition with only 39k on the clock for £2500 but the guy was offered more than the asking price so lost out as i really cant afford any higher than £2500 as my insurance shafted me with my VTR by offering £1400 then sending me a check for £600 so money has to come from my own pocket untill i sort things out with the insurance

Then if im honest id say dnt do it. MG 1.4 isnt as a good a feel as the 1.8 but test drive them and decide for urself. The MG does have a headgasket issue but just get an uprated one on.

I'll check them both out tomorrow then mate and then decide, i do think the MG looks nicer than the c2 though but then its also older with more miles.

C2 was sold and the two original ZR's i went to look at were rust buckets but on my way home i noticed a anthracite grey 2003 ZR that was just new in at my local garage no rust nice clean looked after car hpi clear with 53,000 miles on the clock full years MOT and 6 months tax for £2400 so pick it up tomorrow.

So it's logged as an 8v But has had an engine transplant?

No because its a C2 not a saxo the C2 VTR has a 16v engine

Ive already bought the 1.4 mate but maybe keep it for a year or so then if i enjoy driving the zr i might go for the ZR 160 as by that time i'll have been driving for over a year and would be over 30 so insurance should drop a little.

funnily enough that you mentioned the price of insurance on the 1.4 ZR as my vtr cost me less by £200

MG is a better car on everything, build quality, comfort, speed, looks... but as mentioned above the engines used in MG's are known to head gasket failure, so unless your clued up about engines and dont mind getting dirt under your nails, stay clear. Then again i wouldn't buy a C2 either...

lol

Just make sure the car is warmed up before you take it past 3k revs and the HG will be fine...

My 1.6 R25 is on 60k and originaly HG because i have treated it rite haha

Just keep you eye in the coolant/oil and you will be fine mate, they are great cars!

With the HG failure a company near me can fit a land rover uprated HG for about £300 so that's not too bad.

The head gasket isn't a reason to not buy the MG, it not being a very god car is.

www.themgzr.co.uk is shit and full of stuck up tossers tbh
I had a 1.4 ZR and it went bang spectacularly then got my saxo and thats the best decision ive ever made
Nice cars but so un reliable and very rust prone, the paint is stupidly thin and the electrics are certain to fail
