View Full Version : State of Roads in the UK

The state of roads in the UK is absolutely appauling! I'm actually choosing to take different longer routes to and from college now just to avoid the shite roads full of pot holes.
The amount of taxes the Government get off road users and yet they take forever to resurface a road that shouldve been done several months ago!

I know the roads have gotten much worse over the past few weeks due to the cold weather but they should be being resurfaced as soon as possible.

It's getting dangerous with drivers trying to dodge pot holes not to mention it can damage your car and takes forever to file a claim! + other cars flicking up stones from the crumbled tarmac can chip the paint and windscreen.

Just ridiculous tbh, council need to get their act together and make it a priority to get these roads resurfaced.

Saw that but didnt think it was for pot holes as it says '(like graffiti, fly tipping, broken paving slabs, or street lighting)', my bad. This is a slightly different thread anyway. I wanted a discussion on why it is taking so long for roads to be resurfaced and peoples experiences of filing a claim due to pot hole damage etc. It's a masssive issue in the UK and it just seems to be ignored? Pot holes have the potential to cause serious accidents when it's not even much hassle to get rid of them!

Slamming your car is a choice...

Seriously... I live in Wales... all the roads are rocks.

I ended up driving on the wrong side of the road, about 30 yards for safety reasons. i had to stop and pull back becasue of oncoming cars, then back on the wrong side again.

This was after a long diversion, because the regular road was closed. As I mentioned in the other thread: this country has become the largest golf course, ever.

And I really don't envy those those who slammed down 40mm and under. I feel your pain guys and gals.

As much as I hate the council for the roads. We have just come out of the big freeze which has ruined roads much much more than 2 months ago. Give them atleast a few months to rectify the roads.

Was thinking the same thing. I've come across some HUUUUUGE potholes lately but they've only appeared since the freezing conditions.
Gotta give 'em a chance.

Agree with above. It's the freezing temps that ruin roads.

It's a temporary fix more than likely. I'd rather have abit of shit tar in the hole, than a 3 inch drop.

thats the thing it doesnt last because of the amount of traffic round here, and when it comes to resurfacing they closed 1/4 mile of road for 3 months lol

Pothole's are crap. BUT the snow only went less than a week ago and my council have already started fixing pothole's. Which has pleased and suprised me :y:

Disagree with the above, The lack of maintenance and lack of proper tarmac investment in the first place gave this result. They used the winter as an excuse last year, they will use it next year.

It's colder on the continent yet they don't have a potholes pandemic out there.

my council have already started fixing pothole's.

Is that, filling up or resurfacing? There is a difference.
