umm a good detail really i dont think i need paint correction really

J222JRA
25th January 2010, 18:56
Chances are you would need correction...its not how you have looked after the car since you have had it....just think about the previous owners washing it with dirty water and a sponge...then drying it with a chamois lol

Pm Wayne or Pred....they dont charge a great deal and do a very good job imo

If I had been on a certified valet course then I would charge more, but I don't think it's right to charge alot without any qualifications :D

I used to do mates cars for £25 (just the outside), is that wrong? xD

Mark51

there is a massive difference in the type of work and skill involved between a valet and detail mate, hence the difference in price. Id be surprised if you got change for £300 if your paint work is bad

detailing and cleaning is soo different i spent around 7 hours today sorting out some of the paintwork.. detail is the attention to detail that is missed in a valted ie how many people run a sponge over the badges and the middle of the O is still dirty on a detail there will be polished in that O lol

have a look at this detail. the first pic at a glance looks good and this is what you would expect from a valet but look at the state of the paint work.

as said tbh detailing is what i do, much different to being a valeter, valeter might get more cars done to a detailer but results speak for themselves, yet it comes at a cost

pads are the big cost these days, about 10 quid a pad now for some of them, polish is about 20 quid a bottle, need 3 of those two, maybe last for about 10 - 15 cars depending how bad the paint is and how hard it is

tbh i dont make a great deal off doing details but i enjoy it and enjoy seeing the results and peoples faces

my paint isn't that bad but there the odd light swirl marks so valet is getting the car clean. and detailing is getting rid of the swirls as well?

think theres actually about 4 levels of cleaning cars

valeting
detailing
paint correction (tbh detailing and paint correction sometimes come into the same brackets)
and finally concourse

you learn all the time mate, i used to use sponges and the drying blades, my word i cringe saying that now but its true

go onto detailing world and you will learn a lot

people also seem to think especially on QVC that polish is a protectant, these people are in the valeting business, id love to see some of them panels machined then looked under a halogen light, then the product used and then looked again under a halogen light again to see if it has scratched it

as people say you get what you pay for and its so true

ooo and concours is basically like this

http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?98816-Concours-3dr-Cosworth-400bhp

basically all new parts or old parts refurbed, everything painted/powdercoated, not an ounce of rust on it, every piece and part must be clean

its like a brand new car except its like about ten year old

Mark51

For 30 buck this is what I do:

Snow foam
Wash
Rinse
Dry
Glaze
Wax
Seal

Alloys are a 5er extra and so is engine bay.

All done with the correct techniques etc... No paint correction.

Thats for small hatchbacks, saloons start at 40 and big 4x4 and people carriers are 50 all in.
